Got a not so great call from porsche today...

JMMB and Zelig,
It's been frustrating to say the least. I've been in constant touch with PCNA for a week and there's no additional information. My dealer said they had a call with PAG last week and that the majority of the cars have been fixed at the port from the Porsche factory technicians from Germany. Apparently, it was an easy fix but the dealer technicians are not not experienced/authorized to do the fix. Instead, the seats must be replaced. I asked my dealer to have the seat fixed like they did at the Port but they said they have to follow the recall procedures (i.e. replace the seat). I just don't get it. Like mentioned before, this must be the cheapest fix for them instead of flying the technicians to each dealer. Keep me posted on how your dealer responds. I'm not thrilled by their lack of commitment to a date for the fix or their communication of this issue. Perhaps they see it as only 98 cars affected.
Zelig - I'm not sure how Porsche sources the seats or color matches the driver and passenger seats. Could it be that they have an inventory of seats and just grab whatever is off the shelf. I can't see them guaranteeing a color match for the seats. It would be too difficult. Plus, the grain of the leather would be different if it's not sourced from the same lot of material. I'm just hoping the dark colors (i.e. Black) just blends in with the rest of the car.

PCNA called to tell me that the German techs have left the USA so that fix wont work. They will look into having the dealer replace the harness. Service Manager is asking his Factory Rep for that too.
Left the dealership after they replaced my Burmester amp and the airbag light was on. The amp is under the driver's seat and near the airbag harnesses. In three weeks this car has been a tale of woe.
Maybe I am better off with the new seat and not having the dealer mess with the harness. If the color doesn't match, I would rather deal with that than more electrical issues.
If I have any more issues, I will press for a trade out. Did it once with a Volvo. Car wont be labelled a lemon and the dealer can sell the car as a used vehicle.

Zelig,
Sorry to hear about the additional troubles with the car. Hopefully the amp works now. I was informed today that a new technical bulletin is being issued for the seat issue (not sure if it's 100% accurate). They said the seat will not be replaced instead the wiring harness unit will be replaced with a new one just like the fix at the port. If you speak to your dealer, are you able to inquire? My dealer said this was the latest information they had and we hoping the parts to come in the next 10 days.

That sucks. At least you get a new seat, I just found that the leather around the side airbag on my passenger seat is coming apart, leaving a gap between the plastic airbag module and the seat itself. Every time you sit down it rips more... my dealership said the seat needs to come out, and I need to get it reupholstered.

Ray78,
Thank you. The amp was working fine so far. I appreciate your information and will let you know how it ends up. My dealer has a call into PCNA to ask about fixing the car instead of replacing the seat.

What I am being told now is PCNA made some sort of agreement with the government about this and only cars at the port would get wiring harnesses fixed by German techs who have long since departed. All other cars including unsold vehicles get passenger seat replacements. The seat manufacturer is Lear. About 40 cars are impacted. Since they made this agreement with the US government they can't fix the seats but said they will make it right whatever that means. The first PCNA rep told me that the timeline for getting a new seat was about seven days but my service manager can't confirm that.
This is all that I know. If anyone else knows something else, please post the info.

I have not heard anything from my dealer recently (Manhattan Motorcars) but they have been on top of the situation. I spoke with PCNA twice last week and I'm wondering if I should call again to get anymore information.

PCNA just called me since I kept complaining about getting the seat repaired instead of replaced and also had an issue with my Burmester amp. They said it should be about 7-10 days.
Calling is probably a good idea to insure you are in the queue.
I hope this goes OK. FYI, Lear makes all the seats for Porsche not just for this fix.

Zelig & JMMB,
I was told by my dealer that the seats will be replaced instead of the the wiring harness replacement. I don't have a definitive answer as to why they can't change the wiring harness like they did at the port. I'm assuming that the local porsche service technicians haven't had to do this sort of repair and aren't comfortable with it or that the seat replacement is the easy way for a fix. I wonder what the dealers who are affected doing about this with PAG. It's been almost 3 weeks since the recall with no definitive timeframe. Has the dealers been requesting you guys bring in your cars?

My airbag light is light is always on (ceiling console) unless someone is sitting in the seat. I was told that the manual is wrong and this is the way it should be.

Seat Repaired for Recall Trouble OEM Fire Extinguisher Strap
Zelig,
I totally agree with you and want the same for my car. I'd rather have the wiring harness replace than a whole new seat. However, mine's the standard black seat so it's not like yours where the dye has to match. Based on conversations with PCNA and my dealer, they said they can only do what the service recall says. Do you know if the porsche technicians fixed the cars at Port Newark already. If not, you should demand to have your car fixed along with the others there.

Can't close the strap now probably since it looks reinstalled wrong back then. Anyone have an OEM fire extinguisher where strap opened and can't reclose it? Up to my *** in alligators at work and would rather just try to fix myself.
Checked several forums and am coming up cold.

I ordered an OEM fire extinguisher that is attached to the seat. It seems to have been improperly reattached when the seat was repaired with this recall.
