Repainted bumper turned out to be the least of my worries...
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I returned from lunch to find that some A -hole had backed into the rear bumper of my black 991. There were some scratches and paint chips. I took the car to the recommended "Authorized Porsche Repair Facility" to have the bumper repainted. I had a lot of anxiety about whether the bumper would line up properly to the body seams, that the finish would be as pristine as the original, etc. Little did I know that would be the least of my worries.
I dropped the car off on a Monday and it was to be done of Friday at 3pm. I show up at the shop at 3 and the owner says that the job came out perfect. I notice that all the rear badging is sitting on his desk. He picks up the bag with the badging and gives it to his tech. He say to me " he'll throw these on and it will be ready in a few minutes". Now I've seen the video of the badging being put on the cars at the factory. There is a template they place over the rear engine cover and the letters are placed in the openings and they use a roller to press them down. It takes about 1 minute to do it and it comes out perfect.
I'm waiting about 30 minutes and then the tech brings the car out. The paint was perfect, however the badging was another story. The lettering 'PORSCHE" was too close together and under that, they had put "911 Carrera". That would have been ok except my car is a C2S. So now the centered 911 Carrera was not in proper position.
I was ready to blow a gasket. It seems that they do not have a badging template and they estimate the badging. They removed the badging completely at this point and the tech had to run over to the Porsche dealer to get new badging. When he returns, I happened to have a picture of the rear of my car on my I phone and he used that picture to put the badging on the back of the car. I think it came out incredibly well considering the circumstances. When I got home, my wife thought that it wasn't quite right although it looks good to me.
I am posting two pictures of before and after. I will not say what picture is before or after. I would like some opinions as to what looks right. If they both look ok, then I'm good. The only difference in the pics is one has the spoiler up and the other doesn't. There are different plates on the car that doesn't matter.
So vote left or right or both look OK.

As far as I can see it in these pictures, the first picture is how it is done in the factory. The word P O R S C H E needs to be in line with the white parts of the taillights.
But to be honest... The difference is so small that I wouldn't worry a second about it. It looks good in both pictures.

needs more space between the top and bottom lines, but it's not super noticeable.
I wonder if any body shops have the template they use at the factory.
I actually want to try various badging options on my car, but one of my concerns is lining it up if I ever want to go back to oem.

ARGH!! These body shops!! I have dealt with one here in town where they've had to repaint my bumpers 2,3 times on my past Porsches because they hosed it up, and oh Lord don't depend on them for badging. That's like sending a monkey to Mars. IMO the pic with the spoiler down looks off a bit. I'm betting almost 100% that's the one they tinkered with...ARGH!
My take: get the dang template and have it done right at the dealer.

LOL
I thought you were going to say you had other damage.
1st pic looks better.
I would have stopped the tech before they went to put the badging on and considered it a blessing they had not done it yet.
Consider removing the badging.
It should look cleaner.
If you dont like it, have the dealer reinstall it.

The one with the spoiler down looks as though the two lines might be too close together. In addition, it appears that they are not parallel to one another with a slight gap widening from left to right?
For what its worth, I took a past car for some minor panel repairs. It too came out "perfect". Apparently perfect to them was not a single panel aligned correctly. Alignment was so far off that the drivers door was touching the redone panel metal to metal. Trim pieces on the door had been bent from the force of the two panels coming together. It was a BMW recommended shop. Eventually got re done properly but what a headache.
If it continues to bother, I'd just have your dealer re-install. Good luck.

Pic with the spoiler raised is the original.
Your lettering is supposed to curve ever so slightly with curvature of the bumper.
The P and the E should be a tiny bit higher than the S.
Perhaps it's just me, but the lower lettering on the second pic looks high.

The first pic looks like the factory. The letters on the 2nd are too high and the model is too tight to the Porsche. It offsets the bumper and looks off. If your in So Cal call Moe at glistening perfection, he installed new badging on my 991 and is correct.

The right pic with the spoiler down looks off to me. The E of the Porsche seems lower than the P. Also the 2 lines seem too close.
I think only a 991 owner would notice it though. If you are a perfectionist like myself, I would go bananas also. For me, just knowing that there is a possibility that it could be a hair off will send me over the edge. I would probably try to call Germany and borrow that thing in the video they used to apply the letters!
