Of course is the PDK is not great compared to REAL competition transmissions when you are driving 9 or 10/10th. No transmission in a road car will ever be that good. You are comparing apples and oranges. A race transmission doesn't last very long compared to a PDK or a old fashioned manual, so in that aspect, a race transmission is crap.

We're talking road cars here. If you wanna talk race cars, start a new thread...
The issue I have is that nearly all of the benefits of the PDK don't apply in real-world street driving. Yes, you can get an extra 0.2 sec at a dragstrip. I don't find it to be of any benefit in real-world street driving - that's the point I was making.

If I want a racing transmission, PDK is not the best choice; until they get the issues I mentioned sorted out, I don't see it as the best choice for a street car, either. As the PDK is implemented today, I see it as an "in-between" option that is targeted at auto magazine specs and those who buy a Porsche as automotive jewelry.

Sorry, but that's my honest assessment, and I made my purchase accordingly.

I understand where you're coming from, but the advantage of the Pdk is not that it is 0.2 sec faster. That's marketing BS. It's not important on street driving. The benefit of the PDK is that you have the same control over the car as you do get with a manual, while you can keep both hands on the steering wheel. It may be less involving, but one can get that involvement from other aspects than a clutch alone. This is the point where opinions are different and I can only give my own opinion on that, which is not really important.

The other and IMO biggest benefit iof a PDK is that, when you are not in the mood for an inspired drive or when you are driving in traffic, you have the option to leave it in auto-mode and enjoy a nice and relaxing drive in your favourite car, without losing the possibillity to shift yourself, the moment you feel you need to.

In the end it's a decision everyone has to make for him or her self.... As long as there still is a choice, that is.

I guess I don't see that as being worth $5K. The only time that I might need that extra bit of strength on the wheel is on the track, and even then I'm fully used to using one hand to shift. If you need the second hand on the street, you're pushing WAY too hard, IMO.

OK, I'll agree with this. Not worth $5K, either - but I can see where others' opinions may differ.

Right. Choice is good. Eliminating that choice would alienate customers - how many is yet to be determined.

That said, a few improvement tweaks to PDK would get me on board. I don't disparage the concept - I just don't think the execution is yet up to the level it can and should be.

He did, but he was the advocate of DC power distribution. A vocal group swore up and down DC was safer (Tesla was an advocate of AC) .. Lot's of experts then too chimed in who didn't have a clue as to what they were talking about...

Really?

Look them up. I was referring to English. Perhaps in other languages there are other terms.

Although I am big on semantics, this one is pretty clear.

PDK isn't there yet - close, but not yet. For someone who really isn't skilled with shifting, or who will spend most of their time in traffic, it's probably the better choice, but it still has some minor flaws.
I would love to get some time with the PDK-S...
I'd suggest you haven't driven a 991 w/PDK (based off of this post).

It is quite smooth. And some dual clutches are even adjustable to meet your preferences. So to say you aren't happy with it, would suggest you haven't really tried it.

I have - 991 and 981S. I have not tried the PDK-S - would love to, but haven't seen one in person, much less one that I could test drive.

Which ones would they be, and how do you get one on a 911? How do you dial out the operating delay in all shift modes? How do you adjust the slip rate in lower gears at lower speeds?

So to say you aren't happy with it, would suggest you haven't really tried it.
No. It is to say that I tried it and did not like it. The fact that one person thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread does not mandate that everyone else feels the same way. Similarly, I don't expect that everyone evaluates the PDK the same way as I do - I just don't think it's good enough yet to completely replace the three-pedal setup, so I would prefer that when I buy my next Porsche that I have the option to select between the two.
