Looking for the right DD exotic
#16
best DD in your group is the 911, you may have trouble getting a new GT3, not sure. That being said, I don't consider a 911 an "exotic" maybe that's me, idk.
Exotic DD I'd recommend looking at is a used SLS in the $135-150k range. You should be able to get a decent discount and still have a few years of warranty. Pretty bullet proof car and no doubt an exotic IMO.
I looked at f430, MC Maser, R8 and 991. The 991 S did the trick for me, I love F-cars and will get one eventually, but for now, my Stuttgart steed will do just fine

Yea 10k is irrelevant but after you add the other 20k then adding another 10k on top for the performance stuff is stupid.

He mentioned that he is looking at the dual clutch, so his criteria fits.

Well people think a maserati, aston martin vantage, and r8 are exotic and they all start below the GT3 price point. They are pretty close to the carrera S price point and the 4s is above the r8 price point. So to me porsche is either entry level exotic like aston and maserati or the tip top in sport performance.
Either way, good luck with your search, test drives are the only way to know what works for you!

Quantifying a car as "exotic" is hard for people to agree on, especially cars on the fringes (we all know an Enzo is exotic and a Camry isn't). I think there's a lot more than price when identifying an exotic, but that's a discussion for another thread and another time

My dealer will let me test drive an r8 after the deal and financing has been set. I really don't see the point because if I say actually I don't want it then we wasted all that time for nothing.
I could go drive a panamera though they have many of them. I could drive the cayenne turbo as well.

As we know what we term as an "exotic" is very subjective. Maybe this'll clear up the question of whether a 911 is erm....exotic, a DD, and a performer all rolled up in one!
Oh my warped and sarcastic streak spills over onto so many threads now....I'll try to stop now!

The c2s with x51 is going to be 156k MSRP. Too much and the depreciation on that will just flat out make me angry. At that proximity to the GT3 I would just get the GT3. But I appreciate your help. Yes I do agree though with the obsolete tech of the other brands. I was thinking maybe even real low key to get an sl63 but it gets too expensive with all options.

Can you post your options list?

That's what I was thinking....
An exotic is not a DD...
Besides that, you first need to find out what kind of car you want. You can never compare a GT3, Panamera 4S and a Cayenne Turbo. Theonly simularity they have is that they're Porsches.
The Panamera is a luxury sedan, that handles like a very heavy sportscar. The cayenne is a luxurious truck that handles like, well... A very sporty, luxurious SUV.
If you want a sportscar, that can make you smile on every twisty road, yet can be used to commute in comfort, get a 991.
However... A GT3 is a different story. It certainly depends on what you expect in a DD, but for me is not a car I like to drive on a daily base.
Saturday I had the chance to experience the new GT3 (unfortunatley) as a passenger, but regardless what all those journalists said, no way that can be called a DD, at least not for me.
It's absolutely a great car and the sound is addicting (the first half hour), but for a DD way too uncomfortable. It's loud inside, the suspension is a lot more harsh than a Carrera and it misses the more luxurious options (like a good sound system) that make a car a DD for me. This may of course be completely different for you.
I highly recommend to arrange a testdrive, before you go and order one.
I think the C2S or C4s is a much better DD and if you want to add some power you can opt for the X51 (although I personally never see the value of it, but that's just me)
The only good alternative for a 911 is IMO an Audi R8. It's a true sportscar, just like the 911, is equally as comfortable (except the V10 plus), but has only 2 seats and looks a bit more agressive, so it's not as much below the radar than a 911. The build quality is on par with the Porsche too...

But I like this response. I essentially want the best car that is comfortable for every day but I can still have fun in. Thats why the panamera was thrown in there. I wasn't directly comparing a panamera to a GT3. But what you say about the GT3 interest me. You say you rode in it and that it was uncomfortable. How so? All the journalist like evo and Chris Harris say this is the first GT3 that is comfortable given the PASM finally put in it. I don't care for audio or if its exhaust is loud. The bose audio package for porsche is a terrible system and the exhaust can be quieted down. But what concerns me is if its bumpy like previous GT3s have been. What do you say about that?
If it is bumpy then perhaps a r8 v8 would be the way to go or a c4s.
Has anyone driven a cayenne turbo? Are they any fun?

Ferrari FF, bentley, and rollys are all exotic DD to name a few. 599 would be another. But I like this response. It was in some way compareable with my Boxster S (with PASM) in Sport+ setting... A mode I never ever use on the road. It's certainly more harsh than a standard C4S in Sport+ and also a lot more bumpy than a R8 V8. Those are both a lot more comfortable.
But like I said, it depends on your requirements. Maybe you wouldn't find it to be too harsh.
I am very happy that I didn't order a GT3, which has been on my mind for a brief moment. Definitely not a car for me.

It's less bumpy (I think) than the 997 GT3 I drove more than a year ago, so the journalists are right about that. For a real good comparison you should drive them back to back of course, but I found the new GT3 really harsh.

Hmm I have a family member with a new 2014 boxster S. I don't recall it being really bumpy on sport plus. It has PASM. I'll take it out when the snow melts in a couple days and drive it and see. I would drive a GT3 back to back but my dealer will only special order them and none for stock.
