Something to think of when looking at an R8. To me, the interior looks dated. Also, when looking at young second hand cars, the leather on the seats seems to wear really bad, like it's cheap fake leather. You always see huge butt prints on the seat. I hate that !

True... Build quality is good, but not on par with the newer Audi products. Dashboard and MMI system are a couple of generations behind (in Audi terms), but still a lot better quality than Aston Martin or Jaguar for example. Material choice is better now with the facelift model, so I hope that leather is better quality too, but you certainly made a good point there.

For the OP, Here is a nice comparison between R8, 991 and Jag XKR.

Just maybe you should consider a low mileage 997.2 Turbo S. There are many out there to choose from some with PDK and some manual. A 2012 or 2013 with a manual is an instant classic.

True, but also a car that feels old and unrefined compared to a 991.

WOw, they're using a c2 which is 79 hp less than the r8 and 158 hp less than the xkr and out paced them both? A c2s would have been a fare comparison but i guess it would have also been overkill.

Excellent clip, makes me like my c2 even more which i didnt think was possible!

I think a C2S would have been too expensive for this comparison and indeed would have demolished the other completely. Even a C4 would have BTW....
Porsche launch control is by far the best on the market at this moment (especially in this price range)

I didn't like porsche until the 991 to be honest. So it's either a 991 or nothing.

If it was an r8 it would be a new one because I have to have the DCT and also the fine nappa leather rather than the standard nappa leather. The thing about the r8 interior I don't care for is now today it looks very boring and yes like a normal a8 or something like that. Maybe slightly better? Idk I have to go feel the fine nappa leather. But I just really like that full beige interior on the porsche but then I think the black wouldn't be so terrible on the r8 because I wouldn't have to worry as much about dirt showing up.

Now a thought just occurred to me maybe I should slash the r8 off the list because of lack of trunk room. I mean the porsche has a pretty good size trunk. I need to be able to at least fit a gym bag in there. Anyone know if a good size gym bag will fit in an r8 assuming I have a passenger with me?

When I think about it more I really just like the turbo but when I configure it, it is 171k. I really don't get why porsche increased the price 10k that was a bit ridiculous. If anyone here ordered turbos how much discount did you get? Truecar gives 10k off the 997 and my dealer at a minimum has to give me that. Which means there is more to be had so what did some of you get off on them?

If I wait a little longer and put a slightly larger down payment I can bring the car payment down to like 1400 a month which isn't so terrible.

EDIT: If I switch from LED headlights to bixenon and from turbo s wheels to regular turbo wheels and drop seat ventilation it drops to 164.5k. Are the LEDs worth it? I really like the turbo S wheels so I probably wouldn't give those up. I only thought of seat ventilation for resale incase that is a big deal in the porsche community. I certainly never use seat heating or ventilation.

All personal preference. I read the thread and was amazed it only appeared on the 5 th page. The tts only comes in pdk. Of all the choices mentioned, it is the best dd exotic. A gt3 is a beauty, but no dd. Way too rough for the street. R8 is a crowd stopper. A scuderia is a brutal ride. A tts is comfortable, 0-60 in under 3 sec, and perfectly in your budget around $130k.

Oh, and you drive it all year - it has 4wd.

Sure the frunk will fit a gym bag - actually more than one, but it won't fit golf clubs. A set of golf clubs will fit behind the seats in a R8 coupe.

The 2014 interior on a R8 is definitely upgraded and the "fine nappa leather" is as good as the standard Porsche leather (but not as good as the Porsche natural leather, which I adore)

What colors does the natural leather come in? I thought they were all the same. Though the stand beige leather is pretty nice and very soft. Way more so on the steering wheel and seats though then say on the dash or door. I wonder why that is.

Idk why someone mentioned scuderia because its too expensive. But a 997 TTS may be around 130k but not a 991. And I said that I don't like previous generation porsche but I really like the 991. Plus to me a 991 turbo is more worth it because now it finally actually looks different.

Personally, I don't consider a 911 to be an "exotic". There's just way too many of them to be considered exotic.

If you can wait half a year, you could get a 991 Turbo or even a Turbo S that fits in your budget. Here in Switzerland there are already several dealer cars with very low milage (2500-3000km), for about 15-17% cheaper than MSRP.

True like I said I won't be buying till next winter. But those will probably be bare bone cars that people just wanted to buy to get in and then get rid of.

This may be blasphemy but anyone consider the new c7 z06? Would be a hell of a lot cheaper lol. Probably could get it fully optioned for under 100k. Since the c6 plateaued at 107k and they gave 15k off on those.
