Are you sure the screw is all the way through? A family member owns an repair facility and I worked there for years. I cant tell you how many times I pulled something out of a tire that hadnt gone all the way in. Ive installed hundreds of plugs and owned vehicles with multiple plus in tires with no issues. I wouldnt drive on the Autobahn of course, but as others have said, it should be just fine.

Last week I put a plug in my wifes SUV tire before her and our daughter took a road trip, didnt think twice about it.

A plug will suffice. While TireRack's quote is cute, people are overlooking the fact that they... SELL TIRES!

If you drive your car like a typical person drives his DD don't worry about it..

Ended up getting it patched. Every tire place I called recommended a plug and patch method so ended up going with that. Shop did a great job. Hopefully will last me another 4-7000 miles and then I will replace all four. Thanks for everyone's help!

A proper plug is considered a 'good as new' fix.
No, No. No plug repair. Tire must be properly patched from the inside. Sometimes the patch has a plug like protrusion on it, but the tire must be repaired form the inside.

The OP said the tire was holding pressure, which could mean that the screw has not penetrated all the way through the tire. I have been lucky before had had an object in my tire that did not penetrate past the tread and I was able to remove it from the tire with no leak.
