AFE Releases New Exhaust Options for the 991!

Our friends at aFe were nice enough to send over their press release for their 2013-14 Porsche Carrera 2S with the H6-3.8L naturally aspirated engine systems released today!

Included are dual 304 stainless steel light-weight race mufflers and resonators, this straight-through design eliminates any restriction and optimizes maximum power and performance with no compromise. . No modifications necessary!.

Carbon Fiber (P/N: 49-36406-C) or Polished Tips (P/N: 49-36406-P)

In recent testing, this aFe cat-back exhaust system produced 34 horsepower and 43 lbs. x ft. of torque, furthermore, weighs 20 lbs. less than the stock exhaust!

Starting with a CAD X-Pipe, aFe spent countless hours of R&D to ensure that the volume, flow and balance was no less than perfect. Furthermore, aFe’s unique brushed finish step mid-pipe design unleashes all available power and creates a broad and exciting power band.

Available with either dual 3.5” polished 304 stainless steel or pure carbon fiber tips, each with CNC-Machined laser-etched tip inserts; this system is hand-crafted and TIG-welded for a perfect, precise fit and 100% complete bolt-on installation

Carbon Fiber (P/N: 49-36406-C) or Polished Tips (P/N: 49-36406-P)

Can't wait for videos. Also, I'm assuming that this won't work with the PSE valve button, right?

To dyno the car you have to pull a fuse out? Iam curious because I went to dyno my C2S and the car wasn't having it.

Any videos of the exhaust?

We had to put the system into 4wd mode. This sapped some of the power as the rear wheels had to drive the front rollers too. Otherwise the system won't let you out of first gear as it sensed the front wheels not moving. In effect, this gives a lower result as the car is now pushing both rollers not just the rear.

Will post videos once available. You are correct, this would delete the valves

$4,404.75

And it's double what it should cost, 2.5X considering it deletes the valves. AFE either doesn't get their customers at ALL or they are planning on discounting 60% to get to street prices.

(I'll remind the market at large that the AWE Switchpath exhaust, with valves and tips retails for $2595 and is on sale right now)

Whoah!!!! Employee of AWE? Maybe you can give advice? I'm taking delivery of my 991 C4s in 3 months and looking at all the exhaust possibilities. Is the AWE Switchpath for $2595 delete the x2 side mufflers and the rear main muffler or just the rear main? Sound clips? My options are open.

Imagine this with the Fabspeed headers and 200cpi cats...it would be outrageous. Also the claim of 34hp is kind of ridiculous its only at a very narrow range of the powerband. According to the graph it only gained 5rwhp peak power.

To my knowledge, any muffler that works with the PSE valves (such as the Switchpath) would retain the stock side mufflers or use its own side muffler design. That's how you get the quiet/loud setting to begin with, since the "quiet" mode would route the exhaust through the main muffler *and* the side mufflers.

Thanks for the info. I looked it up and the Switchpath looks like it uses the stock side mufflers. My car will not be a daily driver so I don't really need the option go a quiet/loud mode. Honestly, I want the thrill whenever I do drive it.
So really the Switchpath and the aFe isn't a good price comparison. I wonder if I can get the Switchpath with their versions of side mufflers. I would really like to eliminate all the stock mufflers. I like the aFe because it's a complete system and I LOVE the carbon tips. The only other is Akropovic which is priced way too high for an exhaust system.
Anyone have other complete systems on this forum with sound video that eliminates all 3 stock mufflers?

Do you have PSE? If you're looking for an aggressive system and would like to eliminate the factory mufflers, you might as well get a muffler bypass system for the side mufflers (since you don't care about preserving the closed-valve sound setup). Then, go for an x-pipe that suits your taste.

Cheers,

Chris

No PSE Chris since I am looking to replace with aftermarket anyways. Thanks for the advice, I will keep that in mind.

Then your best bet would either be my original suggestion (to get an x-pipe you prefer and purchase side muffler bypass pipes that will eliminate the side mufflers), OR to buy a complete system that includes more aggressive, lightweight side mufflers.

I don't want to hijack AFE's thread any further, so I'll shoot you a PM later today with a bunch of options. I did way too much research on exhaust options, so I'll share my findings if it helps a fellow member out.
