Who has tried the 7-speed manual?

love the 7mt, just could never justify a pdk despite its awesomeness on my 1st 911--maybe future 911s i'll feel different.
the 991 mt is very different than my previous bmw 3series mt--much more smooth and precise but also bit more technically demanding. like sanibel stated above, i learned the necessity of light touch on the shifter--no forcing gears. 911s apparently are notorious for 1st gear shift stubborness. the notchiness also loosens up quite a bit over the first 3k miles i would say. clutch engage point on 991 is very low on the pedal release, which took some adjusting. tranny also likes a bit of throttle as the clutch engages on upshifts as well as the obvious downshift blips. overall, learning these idiosyncrasies have been part of the fun!

I love the 991 manual transmission. It's lightyears ahead of my previous manuals (S4, M3, ZO6 and my current Terminator). The shifting is crisp and the clutch is a pleasure to work with. With a little practice, one can learn to launch like a rocket. I saw a 991 Carrera S2 with a manual turn an 11.7 at Atco speedway last year; that run sold me on the car. Any seasoned drag-racer will tell you that cracking an eleven with just 400 HP is quite remarkable.
And the rev-matching feature is the icing on the cake once you get used to it.

I'm curious as to the number of 7MT owners who use Sport Plus (and therefore the auto rev-matching feature) during their normal, daily drives. Apart from trying it out on track, I've only used Sport Plus a handful of times on the road.

So I'm a big downshifter in normal traffic. I always thought Sport Plus is too much for normal driving, but truthful at normal speeds I can't tell the difference from Sport. I'm sure with spirited driving, it will be more obvious. But the sound that accompanies the downshift is so good and the shifts are so smooth. No performance benefit at these speeds, but I may start using Sport Plus more.

Bessy is quite the screamer. Love it!

I thought the rev matching was something I would not care about but after having it I love it.

Same here. At first I thought rev matching was a gimmick, but combined with PSE, it's such a blast. I love the sounds the car makes upon a downshift. As a result, I use Sport Plus mode every time I drive the car except for when I pull out of my garage super early in the morning, so as not to wake my family and neighbors.
As for the 7MT, I've had my car since June, and I find the 7MT in the 991 to be the most precise, rewarding and excellent manual I've driven. Totally kills the 6MT in my E93 M3.

I also find that the oil temperature rises to its optimum operating temperature faster and remains at a cooler level during spirited driving when Sport-plus is activated.

I drive my PDK in Sport Mode 98% of the time and have not yet tried Sport+. Gonna have to give it a try one of these days.
I usually drive in Auto mode except when traffic conditions and my attitude demand otherwise. I had been driving almost exclusively using the paddles and stick but after having enjoyed the auto mode on the track, I came to appreciate the PDK all the more.
From what everyone's written, the 7M is an exceptional manual but I have no regrets about getting the PDK just as those who opted for the 7M probably haven't as well.
