Hook'em young.... at the Barber today!
.... the Barber Motorsports Museum.
We gave our 5 and 9 year old nephews their Xmas present. A weekend stay in Birmingham, AL with a visit to the Barber museum and track. The museum of course was a lot of fun but is also overlooks the track. The Porsche Driving School had a session going on and the boys had a blast seeing the Panameras, Caymans, and their favorite...the 991S's go by. As if my influence wasn't enough, Porsche have got these boys hooked! Nothing else will do.

That's where I did my 2-day Porsche Performance Driving Course and the entire place - grounds, track, facilities & museum - are first class and spotless. George Barber is the genius behind it (NOT Skip Barber - no relation), and hats off to George for his vision and passion. And, hats off to Haku for planting the seeds young!

The nice bonus was that the 9 year old is really getting into how engines work. After a brief intro he totally understood the workings of the combustion engine and could point out and explain its key components. He loved the exhibits.
Yes the kids had a blast. There is something for everyone at Barber. Just an awesome place.
My dealer mentioned the Macan launch. He will be there and was looking forward to it.
I agree. I too would have been thrilled. The boys certainly were, and showed genuine appreciation. What I like about Barber is that it demonstrates that motorsports effectively combine engineering and design and are an art form. The design of the venue and the presentation of the exhibits reflect that so well.
S, I agree the entire place is stunningly beautiful. It is cared for amazingly well. What a great way to indulge in his passion. IMO, George Barber's creation is yet another inspiring example of American philanthropy. This time for the benefit of the petrol head and engineer.
Thank you all for your comments.

Come on, was it really for your nephews only ?
The whole complex and the track are great indeed. You should definitely join us for a track day there in 2014!
