A lot of things don't make sense...like 10+ variation of the 911 so why not 1 more? And better yet, that one more is a classic.

The new 991 Targa is a work of art. I would't mind having one.

What sportscar does make sense!? These are all toys and the 911 is in 16 versions right now, for 16 different tastes.

Why does a car need to make sense?

Not making sense for a toy is one thing but adding about $10K to the cost of the car to remove under a 2lb roof automatically is above the pale. Back when the Targa was a manual removed top, it took all of 30 secs to remove and stow it. Are we getting so lazy that we have to have this process done automatically?
I didn't like the Targa in '65 and I still am not a fan of the look.

I think you miss the sheer brilliance of this mechanism.

I applaud their innovation here.

In this age of boring cars the targa looks great. It's an instant classic and a great asset to the brand!

On the part of the removing of the top, I 100% agree with you. 918-owners also need to remove the roofparts by hand, so PAG could have saved some weight and work on the Targa IMO.
In terms of looks, I always have been a fan of the original Targa and I like this one even more, but that is just a matter of peronal taste.

Nevertheless, I guess they will sell pretty good...

Folks this thing is going to fly, I'm thinking it may take some cab buyers too. The question is will they build as many as they can sell like the cab or will it get the GT3 limited production treatment.

There's no production limit. Not even on the GT3 anymore... (Maybe GT3 RS gets a production limit) They'll make as many as they can sell.

Maybe there's a limitation on the amount of allocations per country each year, but definitely no production limit.

This worked on the 65 body.

Seeing pics of this car with the top up......my 1st thought is that Marketing overruled Design's better judgment.
It looks out of place (by a few decades) on the smooth lines of the 991.

But of course......beauty is in the eye......

Take a closer look and check out how the aluminum bar is angled slightly towards the rear. On the older versions the bar was almost horizontal it is very crisp and the cut lines line up nicely. Nice design and the whole thread seems to agree that the blue is nice but black? Hubba-bubba!
