My latest modding on 991! loving it

Hi
Thanks for your kind comments. I will record and post a video clip soon.
1) IPD + K&N, I did install these parts first and test drive
Installation - it should be easy to install IPD with a good skilled mechanic. My mechanic has changed a few IPD on 991. However, my car has PDDC and this is more trouble since PDDC has a pump placing in front of the intake plenum so it is not easy to remove the plastic plenum out and install a new one. They had to remove the belt and disassemble some intake components to make way to install IPD so it took much longer time to install IPD in my car compared with a car without PDDC.
Performance - The intake sound has definitely changed, not any better than the original sound but it has changed especially for mid-high range. IPD has quoted the additional power of 15 horsepower at the wheels. Good power at mid range. It is hard to tell if you did gain that much power but it has a feel good factor. In my opinion, it is ok modding but I did not feel the increased power, however, I can definitely feel that the engine is smoother and more eager to rev.

2) Arkapovic titanium
Installation - super easy, just plug and play. It fits perfectly with the original layout and fixtures.
Performance - they have quoted the increased power of
Maximum power
kW 290.2 at 6550 rpm -> 291.6 at 6550 rpm + 13.2 at 4050 rpm
HP (m) 394.6 at 6550 rpm -> 396.5 at 6550 rpm + 18.0 at 4050 rpm
Maximum torque
Nm 429.0 at 6350 rpm -> 434.6 at 6350 rpm + 35.0 at 4000 rpm
lb-ft 316.4 at 6350 rpm -> 320.5 at 6350 rpm + 25.8 at 4000 rpm
Weight saving
- less 8.8 kg (less 19.4 lb)
http://www.akrapovic.com/#!/car/prod...d=12&yearId=28
If you see the graph below (provided by Akrapovic) then the maximum power is more or less than same as the original PSE. However, the increased torque at low-mid range is just amazing, you can really feel the difference when driving it. The car just feels faster, lighter and more agile. Of course, the sound might be too loud for some but you can simply turn it off by just pushing the button. Akrapovic works perfectly with my original PSE set up/button.
- when the valve close, it still has a very good sound and it is not too loud for everyday driving (if you don't rev the engine over 4,000 rpm)
- when the valve open, you will not want to close the valve again! that's it.
Thanks for your kind comments. I will record and post a video clip soon.

Props for taking matters in your own hands!
I think you did the best upgrades for the money, other than rubber to get the most satisfaction.
Just hearing the feedback from the pipes lets you know you unleashed a beast and are letting it breathe life.
I always enjoyed that feeling right after putting in a K&N, tossing the catalytic converter and changing the pipes on my bikes.
I wish I had the guts to do it on my 991, it's gonna live as close to stock as possible ;(

Very nice mods, congrats!. I had decided I would not touch my engine, but now you got me all excited Had the exact same experience with another aftermarket exhaust on the 991 (FVD). I am getting the new AWE switchpath exhaust installed next week. They assured me they took care of the issue on theirs. I'll post about it when we've made progress on the install.

I am working with Freed performance for all my aftermarket mods. They have done extensive work (suspension, engine, exhaust, brakes...) on several of my cars (991S, 997 GT3, 996 track car, VW GTI, E36 M3, E46 M3).
Sean Freed is a former senior Porsche tech. It is a small shop but the upside is that you get all the attention of the owner and that the quality of the work is extremely good.
The exhaust should be installed tomorrow

Wait, aren't you the author of the thread "who here thinks the power kit is a rip off?" Value truly is in the eye of the beholder. :-)
