Waiting for GT3? Uh oh

The first one literally was falling apart. I once shifted in reverse and a plastic cover popped out from the center console. I got a 2000 version after several other "issues" and I mentioned lemon law and got another. Thanks Dwight Harrison VW! Great customer service, he even lowered my payment.

Fester, the Porsche dealer rep for our region was on our table at a dinner last night and we chatted about the stop sale etc. I'm comforted in knowing that Porsche will get the issue (whatever it is) sorted out. I doubt there will be significant delays on current builds but if there are, it's fine and I don't mind. One reason I let my earlier allocation go was the assumption that bugs would get ironed out by the time I get mine.
I'll keep you posted.

Here is the latest on the GT3. No recalls, they are just asking owners not to drive it until they find the problem.

Wow, that's incredible. Kudos to Porsche for doing a full engine replacement and not trying to replace a single part within the engine. Sounds like this will be a very time-consuming process, though.

I feel kinda special having my carrera engine replaced over Xmas and now this.. wow Porsche, gotta admit that's how to do a recall though. Still don't know wtf happened with my engine..

True, but Porsche sells about 800 991's per month in the US if I am not mistaking.
I'd be the first one to jump the guns when/if something goes wrong with my car, but forums have a tendency to make people freak out or believe that issues are a lot more widespread than they really are.
The IMS problem on the 996 is a good example. You will read everywhere that you should stay away from the 996 because of it and you will find many failure stories, but when you talk to Porsche techs, they will tell you that had very few replacements to make after the first or second model year.
Maybe this is wishful thinking

Looks like they are going to replace engines in all 991 GT3s built to date. Could take a while, and I'm sure a GT3 with a dealer executed engine swap won't have the same resale.
Owners have option of returning car and getting their money back or having whatever 991 loaner they want till its fixed.
I expect to see some Porsche buy-back repaired GT3s at bargain prices by the summer.
