Gas containers for track days

My local track is quite a ways from a gas station. 2 five gallon cans would get me thru the day. Are there any good ones I can fit in the frunk that won't make a mess. I have a liner in the frunk and planned to wrap the cans in garbage bags just to minimize any leaks.

Is this a bad idea and if not what are the best ones for this purpose. I have see some nicer ones online but none of them have dimensions posted.

Humm I can get one 5 gal in my front, just because the track I go to burns so much gas I need it before lunch. I bet you could get 2 standard ones in there. I would just fill them up at the last stop and your taking them out anyway when you get there.

Hope you don't have far to go. Carrying a bomb in the frunk is not my idea of fun!

I am not a big fan of the idea. I also found out that during the hottest sessions, the 991 could sip half a tank in 30 mins (or at least get to a point were you will experience fuel starvation under hard braking or cornering if you did not start with more than half a tank) so an extra 10 gallons may not take you very far anyway.

I thought about the bomb in the frunk but where is the normal gas tank?

SM_ATL do you mean hottest session as far as heat or how hard you go. Sorry this is probably a really dumb question. I have been to this track for 4 days but none were very hot. It is not as hot here as where you live and I am not sure I will do any mid summer days since I really don't like heat and am not a track junkie. I just want to do 2-4 PCA events per year. Our sessions are around 18 minutes times 4.

I know an extra 10 gallons has worked so far and I assume as I get better I might use less gas because I was more efficient?? I had not thought about fuel starvation under cornering as I get better.

The gas station is 20 some miles away or for $12/gallon plus I can buy higher then I need octane gas at the track so I do have options.

Sorry about the misunderstanding, I used 'hot' as in 'hot lap' not as in 'Hotlanta' I am not a native speaker and am afraid I am creating confusion sometimes.

With other groups than PCA, we run at least four 30 minutes sessions per day (even more with Chin Motorsports: 30 mins warm up, 4 x 30 minutes sessions + 1 happy hour at the end of the day). With less than 8mpg on the track I refuel quite often. With the distance between your track and the nearest gas station, it can be problematic!

The car gas tank is designed to resist to impact and accidents (to a certain point) and will not leak. It would be nice if you could team up with someone who is using a trailer and could carry gas containers for you.

Thanks, in hind site that is what I thought you meant. FWIW I am a native speaker and write and communicate worse then you.

I think I will hold off on this idea and do some more track days before trying to figure out what is best for what I do.

Yeah, the fuel tank is up there as well, but its been engineered for a frontal collision.

As I take mine to concours events, as well as PCA events, I just picked up a Dodge Ram diesel pickup and an enclosed trailer. I'm fitting a proper fuel tank in the bed for this purpose. The trailers are not that pricey, mine was less than $2500
