I'm at 1650 miles & message says change oil

So, I leased my 991 C4 almost three months ago and now have about 1650 miles on the odometer. This weekend, I began receiving the message as I started the car saying that oil change was due in 8500 miles/25 days. Is that because the existing oil has been in the car for almost a year? Do I need to have the oil changed?

Advice?

Samp is infamous around these parts
Mine did around 1000. The dealer had to reset. Been ok since then. No big deal.

Thanks! My SA just responded to my email saying that they will reset the computer the next time I stop by.

Yes, it's based on time and/or mileage. Since it's a lease, I suspect that you'll do the minimum maintenance required.

Some cars are giving "premature" oil service messages. Apparently there is a service campaign to load new software for the instrument cluster which should correct this. I just had mine updated done today while I was in for something else.

Do you know when it was manufactured? Was it sitting around on the lot for a long time before you bought it? If so, it could have gotten a lot of condensation and it might be good to change it. Otherwise, just let them re-set it.
