Getting fewer Pcar waves in the 991?
#19
If someone was to wave, I would wave back, but Porsches are as common as BMW's, Mercedes, Outie's (jk), etc. So I don't see any waving, but maybe I'm going too fast to see them wave...
I do have people occasionally flash me a sign that I'm "number one." But that is usually after I gracefully pass them every so slightly above the flow of traffic.
My 991 would never be confused with the soft or hard top Boxsters.

I wave at corvettes. This confuses them.
stolen from the internet:
A blonde driving a Porsche sees another blonde with a Porsche that has broken down on the side of the road. She stops to ask what’s wrong.
The girl with the broken Porsche says, “I just had a look under the hood, and there’s nothing there. Somebody must’ve stolen the engine while I was driving!”
The first blonde says, “Oh, don’t worry, I have a spare in the back of my mine.”

Not so far from reality. A few months ago I found two of my females neighbors looking at the back of my R8. I figured they were admiring the car, but no, one of them told me that they couldn't figure out why Audi would put all that hardware in the back seat of the car. When I explained that it was the engine, they asked me why would anyone want to see an engine and why isn't there at least a pull down shade to hide it.

In the midwest, sports cars are relatively rare, and P-car wise 90% are Peppers/Pannys. I always wave at other 911s, get a response maybe half the time. I get better responses from the F-car, L-car, and R8 owners.

Agreed. Despite the fact that the 991 is a higher-performing car than the M3, it would seem that more people buy a 991 for status or trendiness, and not out of a true passion for the car. When I had my E90 M3, on the other hand, I would frequently get waves and enthusiastic responses. In fact, m3post has a long-running, popular thread in which local M3 owners post "sightings" of other M3s: "Spotted an Alpine White E92 M3 today on the Northern State Parkway--sounded like it had an aftermarket exhaust. Looked great! Anyone here?" etc.

I just got a headlight flash and wave from a black 991 last week...pretty cool!

Almost all Corvette owners wave to othe Corvettes (I learned this when I had my ZO6).
Many Jeep owners also wave to other Jeeps (I see this a lot while driving my wrangler).
Most of the Porsche owners in my area are older snobs and totally ignore their surroundings, but I do notice that some of the younger owners tend to wave or flash the lights.

regarding Corvettes, (and the " Save The Wave" pleas among its owners ) there is a proper Corvette wave techique you know...just ONE sweep side to side with your flat open left hand, thumb still hooked to steering wheel
BTW, NEVER wave to another same model driver by flapping hand freely like a toddlers' birthday party clown unless you are an owner of a Miata (or US 986/987 Boxster )...JK!

All this talk about waves and I was starting to wonder... 911 tradition is the headlight flash, no? I haven't actually had anyone wave at me. Although, a few times, I got the headlight flash, which I obliged with a headlight flash in return.
