Getting fewer Pcar waves in the 991?

Don't forget the original european " tuner car " here in the US , the 70s Ford Germany built Capri, sold here by Mercury dealers. Many owners " beeped" their horns at each other , real life imitating its TV commercials at the time

That was my father's very first car! Same color and wheels too! I think he had the 4-speed.

The flash/ wave is almost dead in the north shore of Chicago as far as I can tell.

Yeah we're flaunting our PDLS

the Capri( and Scirocco ) in the 70s is what a Subaru WRX ( and Golf R/ GTI ) type car be would be today to college aged car nuts( if such still exist in today's smart phone/ gaming -addicted young men ) : training wheels to aspired future Porsche or Ferrari ownership

My father had the Capri, and I had the WRX STi... Each of these cars was our stepping stone to 911 ownership.

you need to show this thread to your dad ...it's in your DNA, even the choice of the WRX was genetically coded at your conception , lol!

Let's bring back the wave then...
After reading all these posts its clear we need to bring back the wave. Life is too complex, inconsistent, unpredictable and short to overlook a simple gesture that universally reaffirms that I have sampled the same indescribable joy that you have in piloting a 911 down the road...
We're all to quick to yell at an idiot on the road (yours truly included), we need to patch the karma hole by reinforcing the truly specially feeling that goes with driving a 911.
As for the wave...for those who don't know...this almost sums it up perfectly:
- I'd add that I skip the side to side and simply extend the 4 fingers straight up leaving the thumb on the wheel.
As for those who don't wave at 991s: "I share waves with other 993 owners, we seem to have some connection. But with the 991, not so much."
I ask you to consider it an act of blind faith. I have driven lots of 911s and the 991 is 100% 911 (just very modern and comfortable). If all 911 drivers don;t reinforce the connection and wave to one another, that bond will simply be lost eventually.
Lets keep the dream alive... (Corny but dead serious)

Haha, that was my fear. I wave whenever I am waved to and definitely nod or smile in appreciation whenever I see a car I like (extra attention is paid to Porsche). I definitely agree that it is a simple but nice gesture.

I usually wave at other 911s, and I will generally try and flash when moving opposite directions on a two lane road. Any older Porsche that been shown some TLC also gets a wave. I passed somebody in a well kept 944 last week and I think I really made his day. I also wave at Boxsters and Caymans, because that is where I started out. There was a thread here on 6speed in the Cayman section discussing why they never got waves from 911s, so if you really want to preserve the community that is worth thinking about. You can usually tell when someone has invested extra time and effort into the Boxster/Caymans, and that distinguishes the enthusiasts from the ones that just bought the brand. And speaking of buying the brand, I have noticed that I am getting fewer waves back from other 991’s now that they are becoming more common on the road. I assume that is the result of status seekers jumping into the next best thing.

I'm in central NJ and I always wave and generally get about a 90% response. The rest are just clueless. I also get constant stares and pointing, especially from the 14-18 year old crowd (usually boys of course)! The strangest was a young kid hanging half way (no exaggeration) out his window to get a better look while driving his Jeep. And he was in front of me!!! The one I remember most was while sitting at a light and looking in my rearview mirror and in the car behind me, an 80-year-old looking woman sitting in the passenger seat had a big smile on her face as she mouthed the word "P-O-R-S-C-H-E"! And her husband driving the car? Clueless.
