Oh, come on Porsche: not again

Oh, come on Porsche: not again
First Turbo 4s, now this? When will their greed and silly madness stop? I'm not sure I like their long term direction. I hope they realize that if they go in this direction, they really can't justify the price point differences between competitors. Eg... Cayenne Turbo costing 30k more than an X5m or ML63. I think it will catch up to them. Right now, people still buy Cayenne because it is a "Porsche" and willing to pay more, but if they become just like any other German car company, there is no "exclusivity" anymore. Audi, Mercedes, BMW, eh Porsche. 911 is still unique, but that new Audi TT RS looks pretty nice too and having 35-40k in my pocket ain't too shabby either.
I thought the BMW X6 and Acura ZDX were the most hideous car:

Like I told my Porsche rep.. you guys are headed down the BMW route. I remember back in the day when BMWs were exclusive in high demand and there was a wait for ///M cars just like there is for Porsches. The new Porsche is about profitability and numbers - they will always make the 911 but the days of exclusivity are wearing thin, wait till the Macan hits!

Fugly! The X6 was already the most hideous car on earth, no need to challenge it
Except for a potential long term impact on the resale value of our cars, I am not concerned about the direction Porsche is taking. If they give up on real sportscars, so be it, the competition will fill the void.

There's a part of me that thinks that it shouldn't matter so long as these non-sports cars provide the profits necessary to continue to build really good sports cars. But there's also a part of me that agrees... does the world really need another ugly, stupid, heavy SUV-coupe? No. Frankly, I'd be much happier if Porsche built a small sports sedan (like a 3 series fighter), the Panamera shooting brake concept they had recently or even a cheaper, smaller, lighter sports car than the Boxster.

The engineers at BMW and Acura should be commended for making those particular vehicles handle as well as they do but I keep asking... how much better those vehicles would handle and be if they weren't compromised for the word go.

Agreed. Just expressed a personal opinion. Did not mean to offend you at all

Oh my, that thing is ugly. I'm guessing they are more popular in other countries. When I did performance center delivery on my E92 M3 they picked me up in this gem:
I almost turned around to head back to my plane. That was until I reminded myself I had an M3 waiting for me...

Haha I would have been tempted to do the same. When I had my 335i in for service I received a 3 series GT, it drove okay I guess, but good lord it was beat with the ugly stick. I drove it home and back and didn't bother with errands for the day.

I love Porsche but I also love BMW - true they (BMW) are just crazy filling gaps in between their numeric vehicle line up (which I think is ..I mean the 2 series and the 4 series) but they still work for me on days when I feel like my Porsche is too flashy for the people I am meeting. Surprisingly, people think I am more of a reasonable and conservative guy when I arrive in a BMW, rather than in my 911...
I think that the 550GT and the new F30 GT is okay ....I guess that is why they call them cross overs, but the X6 with the right engine, color and accessories can really pack a punch (bear in mind I am not comparing this car to a 911)
honestly rear view from the drivers seat in my X6 is as good as I experience in my Panny
I have no complaints against the handling of my X6 either ...it is heavy and thirsty I agree but it is a "comfortable" car that does have a considerable amount of space (trust me I know) and handle as good as the Cayenne S

Thankfully I am not in the market for a station wagon; German styled or not. What is of concern is the statement in the article referring to it being built on a common VW MLB platform engineered by Audi. Are they going down the path of it being a Porsche because that is the name on the back? Maybe I am thinking about something else but didn't they try this once before with Audi?

Keeperofbeasts... Panny, X6!
I too am a Panny owner. I guess when you can own one of them, you become somewhat more tolerant of the looks of other cars and look beyond just the looks. I love my panny and it is outstandingly crafted within and drives great....but I have to admit it is not the prettiest thing on the road - it sure is imposing and can not be missed, but not really pretty.
