Why so few 991 base Carrera 4?

Hi everyone! This is my first post here so please forgive what is likely a very foolish question. I live in the northeastern United States. Needless to say, we've had a few difficult winters. With that in mind, I'm interested in a AWD sports car. I am specifically interested in the 991 Carrera 4 (the non-S version). When I check the inventory of every regional dealer (and, for that matter, the inventory of dealerships around most major US cities), there are NO base carrera 4 available. Are these simply unpopular cars? Do most people elect to "upgrade" to the 4S version? I would love to get a car without special ordering it as I only really care about 7MT and PASM. I am flexible on colors and other options. Thanks so much in advance.

Hi Dolce,

I can only go off of my service advisor's comments from last summer: C4s are the least popular from the range, and they usually do not stock many of them. His opinion was that potential 911 customers who absolutely need AWD will not mind spending the extra dough to upgrade to a 4S (while, on the other hand, customers look for a base, 2WD 911 are happy with their choice).

You may be able to convince your local dealer to perform a dealer swap and bring a base C4 to PA for you (at no cost, that is). If they're friendly with other dealerships, they can do this easily and find the right car for you.

Cheers

This site shows 62 C4s available for sale in the US. One of them should meet your needs and be able to be delivered to your door.

Thanks so much everyone. Looked through the inventory and they're are quite a few coupes that I would be more than happy to own. Is there any incentive on the dealer's part to discount a vehicle that they have to ship in? I would imagine not....

Or, you can do it the other way...

Find the one you want, make a deal on it with the stocking dealer and then either have it shipped to you or fly and drive it back home.

Good luck!

Interesting re: c4 vs. C4S. Now that the c4 has 350 hp. (as did the older 4S models) it seems fast enough for the city. When it comes to ordering a build, an extra $17k for the "S" seems like a lot for the added hp, 20' rims and red calipers.
Does anyone have a comment regarding spending the extra on the 4S, or has the base 4 sufficed?

Its a polarizing topic around here...like PDK vs 7 speed manual...You can search the forum and get more opinions on the subject than there are C4's in North America.

Good luck!

I would look for the best local price for the C4S maybe a left over 13 and then see what the transportation cost ect were on a distance buy before making a final decision.

Exactly what I did and, luckily, a local dealer had a leftover `13 C4 on the lot. I like the 4S a lot, but for my needs the C4 fills the bill and was a lot less expensive.
