Non-performance retrofit option questions

Aloha, and these are probably dumb questions. I'm new to Porsche and bought my 2012.5 S cab used so didn't get the opportunity to choose options. Two things my BMW 650i had that I used fairly often were voice control and power folding mirrors. My 991 doesn't have them and I'm wondering about the difficulty of getting them installed.

I see that Suncoast sells the voice control parts, so it appears that this is possible (no idea what it will cost to install, however). I used voice control occasionally in the BMW to dial numbers, and in my Porsche the phone book search or dial functions take my eyes off the road.

I can't seem to locate the motor and other parts for the power folding mirrors, so I don't know if it is even possible to retrofit without a ridiculous cost. We have some pretty tight parking garages and spaces in Honolulu, so it is a helpful option.

So do any of you have knowledge of the cost/effort required to retrofit these options?

Aloha,
Mike

If your phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth and you have Siri or the Android equivalent, you can use the phone's voice activation system through the car's mic and speakers, so you won't need Porsche's voice activation to make phone calls.

The base mirrors do fold only manually.

Hi Mike,

I used to have the power folding mirrors and changed them to the sport mirrors. They are painted in agate and wrapped in xpel which can be removed. PM me if you're interested.

The voice control feature on the 911 is not very good, and certainly not as good as the one on the BMW.

Go to the dealer and test it on a car on the lot and see if you find it useable.

My dealer told me most people hate the feature, and he has recommended people not to order it.

I have it too. It works fine for nav and not well at all for phone imo.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll try to test out voice control at our local Porsche store. Siri may be a quasi-solution if I can find an iPhone mount based on the way I have my phone set up.

Aloha,
Mike

Hi Mike,
I have a '12 C2S with voice control. I have a new BMW 328xi with voice control. The BMW is so far above the Porsche. Into snot even close. The voice interface in the Porsche is so clunky and poorly executed. It still shocks me - it may be the worst part of the car experience.the car is fantastic.

If it is like the 997, and it think it is, Porsche makes the electronic system almost to order - it does not take a stock system that can handle whatever is ordered as a plug in. So if you don't order a functionality, you often cannot added. There are some aftermarket systems that came out for earlier 997s. But I don't know if that exists for the 991.

Best of luck. Hawaii must be great for a 991cab.

Thanks for the info, AG991. My 991 is such a better car than my old 650 that I can overlook some of the electronic shortcomings.

Oddly enough, I really wanted a coupe but got a deal I couldn't pass up on the cab. I thought I'd never drop the top, not because of weather but because of our awful rush hour traffic and strong sun. Turns out I go top down almost every day. I adjusted when I leave the office just so I can drop it!
