If I recall this is how all of the 911 Sport Classics were delivered worldwide... Yeah, here is an old vid of the first SC being delivered in the US. Forgot how much I like that car!!

I don't know for sure -- exclusivity? In comparison, Lexus delivered all of their LFAs at one point this very same way. Pallet delivery meant wheels didn't move an inch. You don't have drivers riding them off the ships....

Back in the early 80's Porsche set out to fly all 911's to the US. They built a special "ramp" at Reno, Nevada to handle the weight of the 747 Freighters that were to carry the cars. This was part of a complete change in distribution from having dealers to sales agents essentially. Porsche had to back down though due to a potential lawsuit by the former "dealers" now proposed as nothing more than sales agents.
