PDK Clunking shifting problem or Not?
Good morning guys,
First time poster on this forum.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and coming New Year!
I've had my CS2 2014 now for about 8 months and I am trying to decide weather I have a dealer fixable problem or not. Finding the PDK clunky, When shifting, there is a noticeable clunk, noticeable in the drive train.
auto mode and shifting from 2-1. Also get clunking sounds from drive to park and reverse to park or drive
from 2-1 sometimes there is a clatter sound, coins in a can very faint.
the first cold shift from 1st to 2nd which is always funky. Clutches appear to slightly slip and there is a sense of a significant over-rev
Very annoying on a $100k car, is this considered "normal" as compared to yours?

I would recommend a trip to the dealers, this does not sound normal. I do not get any noise out of mine ever. If you can record it before your trip, this seems to help service advisors that sometimes do not have good hearing.

I have not experienced any of these issues - 8 months 4800 miles. Recommend a trip to the dealer & be sure sure to get a work order generated. It will do you very little good down the road if this issue is not documented each & every time you try to resolve it.

Is it consistently reproducible? Highly recommend taking to the dealer and reproduce with mechanic sitting next to you...
Never had such issue..shifts are very silent.

I've had my 991S for 22 months, almost 29K miles. Almost from new, I've had an intermittent clunk when the car is starting up from a stop sign or light. Usually when it's cold, but not always. Very unpredictable, and has never performed for the service dept. They've never found nor solved the problem, which still occurs occasionally.

I was told noises and clunks are engagement of transmission, normal on a performance car with a dual clutch.

I've gotta say I hear clunks too, especially in Normal mode slowing down when it shifts from higher gear to the first, but it is not annoying or that noticeable - it's not that it's completely silent operation...

PDK Clunking
I had a '09 997.2 C4S (first year for the PDK) which had a noticeable clunk in traffic when downshifting, 2-1, that was quite obnoxious. I made the mistake of buying the car out of warranty, so having it looked at simply was not in the cards. Porsche would only consider replacing the transmission as a unit, for @ $15k. Likewise, the front transfer case developed a leak at one point, and the unit was not serviceable with any internal parts from Porsche. My understanding is that they keep a number of transmissions in inventory for just these issues. Bottom line is that this ruined the car for me and I upgraded to a CPO 991 C4S PDK, which is light years better and smooth as butter. Problem solved. So, if you have issues, file a warranty claim and be done with it. But you will have to convince the dealer that there is an issue. Don't accept "They all do that."
