I suspect they will do something similar to BMW and their models. As you may know, a 325, 328, 330, etc no longer mean 3 series and engine displacement. At this point they speak of tiers within the series that everyone is familiar with.

So I would guess a Carrera remains entry level (good performance with turbo efficiency) and turbo means turbo-charged for speed and don't really care about MPG.

Dozens, really?

Depreciate? Haven't you been following the the previous generations and skyrocketing prices? Look at a 97 turbo. Going for more than a new 2015.
Surely you meant 997. Syrocketing prices? Only on the rare cars, the 993 C2S or Turbo, sure, they are expensive, but an average 993 with typical mileage for a 20 year-old sports car isn't worth much more than $27K. That's not close to what it cost new. A 997 isn't worth anything, but the turbos are few and far between, so for some reason they are still desirable. 991 is a very popular series, and there are tens of thousands of them out there. They are not rare, and will never develop any kind of demand sufficient to inflate their prices. Heck, even the 50th anniversary cars aren't all that rare. GTS? They'll make just as many as they can sell.

I heard the base Carrera will have 500 HP, be a hybrid, have kinetic energy recovery and get 60 MPG!

Sounds like it could be as big a mess as the change from air cooled to water cooled. NA purists wii hold their ground and the new turbo crowd will crow about the new cars. I can't quite understand how Porsche will maintain the number of model layers they have now if most cars are turbos. Maybe that's the plan in the end. Reduce the number of models and be more profitable. What's in it for us? Who knows.

I would personally hate to see all models except GT3 go to turbo and I like turbos. For me too much speculation at this time, I'll wait to hear the really story when facts are available.

I'm not sure how they are going to get 40+, current turbo doesn't get anywhere near that. Current compression ratio is 12+, turbo 20% less. It seems like any turbo has to have a lower compression ratio than NA unless they have variable compression.

So an interview with Porsche's head of R&D in multiple media outlets isn't confirmation enough for you?

http://autoweek.com/article/car-news...ing-turbo-only

Perhaps more importantly, Hatz said that all 911 engines going forward will be turbocharged whether they wear the “Turbo” moniker or not. He also said that the 911 will never get a four-pot, flat or otherwise. A new four might come in the Boxster next year, and will probably make it in the next Cayman. The new mill will likely displace about 2.0 liters, though Hatz declined to comment on output ot timing.

Losing the high revving NA for a FI in the 991 is no bueno but the Boxter losing it's sweet sounding 6 for a FI 4 is really bad imo.

When Porsche's head of R&D tells you directly this is what's happening it's not speculation.

Nope not the base, just the top of the line. These features will be added to all wheel steering and primo active aero to keep the separation from the plebes suffering with 425 HP Carreras and 500 HP Carrera Ss.

When I said speculation I meant how all the models in the line up will lay out not whether it will happen, I can read. Do we really believe that a new S will have 500hp with a turbo? What will the new turbo get , 600hp with twin turbos. Porsche has never been about big hp. I do think there is still much confusion over how it will all be brought to market. I've had 4 turbo Pcars so I'm not completely heart broken so why make myself crazy over it. There is always so much anxiety over issues not in our control in this forum.
I'll wait it's not going to change the way I treat my car. For now I'll enjoy driving.

My $0.02 -----> Just drive and enjoy your car for the time you have it, and don't worry about depreciation. Its only money. Time is more important, and it can't be replaced.
We all know that most cars here aren't going to appreciate in value. And new models come out like clockwork every year.

Even most Ferraris depreciate, and they make only 7000 a year. Scores of recent ones are available for sale.

Right on 50! And they do tend to level out in depreciation over time so the longer you enjoy it, the lower the depreciation cost.

I agree. Just drive it. There is always going to be a next generation.
