Light Weight Batteries

Just as a matter of curiosity, whatever happened to the lightweight lithium/ion/oxide batteries that were available for porsches? I had one in one of my cars. Great weight savings
thanks

You guys don't need to spring for the 50Ah.
Get the 25Ah for $1000 less.
https://www.braillebattery.com/index...atteries/i48ce

A 25Ah Lithium is very equivalent to the stock 70Ah AGM.

AGM Ah are rated at low current, because at high current their Ah drops real low.

Lithium is rated at high current because there Ah don't drop with increasing current.

That means the AGM Ah rating is artificially high and not realizable.
A Lithium with 1/2 the Ah rating, of an AGM, would most likely still out perform the AGM (and by a big margin at high current).
1/2 is fairly conservative as most consider the equivalent to be more like 1/3.

Although I dont know it for sure, but those lithium batteries should have smart charging circuitry, built into them, to assure they charge properly from automotive alternators.

I have the Porsche provided LI battery in my Gt3-for almost 6 years without a problem. I use the provided trickle charger in the winter. ____HEnce the thread-i do not see where Porsche is supplying this anymore or if it will work with my GTS. It could save me from dieting-LOL. But really just curious if its offered or would work.

I was going to get the 50ah but $2,600 for battery is seem a lot. The 25ah is $1000 cheaper but I don't know for sure if it has enough power for 991. What do you think Lunarx? Maybe I should wait for GT3 RS battery from suncoast.

Braille already addressed this rating comparison with their LAH spec.
https://www.braillebattery.com/index...tensity_carbon

LAH represents the Lead Acid Battery Ah needed to match the Lithium Ah.
So you see, for your 25Ah i48CE (or CX) has a 75LAH rating.

That means the 25 Ah Lithium Battery is comparable to a 75Ah Lead Acid Battery.
The reason is that Lead Acid Batteries (Flooded or AGM) are not able to deliver their rated Ah in real world situations, because the resulting Depth of Discharge would damage the battery.
This Ah de-rating increases even more drastically with higher draw rates per Peukert's Law.

Lithium Batteries are rated more honestly and they are able to deliver their rating, across a wider range of (higher current) loads as well as while at lower charge levels.
A 25 Ah Lithium Battery won't deliver 70Ah, but neither will the 70Ah rated Lead Acid Battery.

So, aside from cost, I would rather have the 25Ah Lithium, over the 70Ah factory AGM.
I would actually not do it for the weight reduction, I find the other benefits of Lithium more desireable.

FYI - You can also install Group 49 Batteries in the 991.
Therefore, if you were skeptical of the 25Ah/75LAH i48CE (or CX) you could get the i49CE, for not too much more, and its rated 38Ah/114LAH.
That should make it comparable in performance to the Porsche 95AH AGM (largest battery Porsche offers for a 991).

So i48CE would be fine with our 991. How's about fitment Are they exact fit? Any adapt or custom mount needed?
