Lowering spring installation (Pics updated)

Hello,

I have just purchased gmg racing lowering springs. I am planning on installing them on Saturday. I have a 2015 c2. If anyone has done this before any tips or pointers. Im confident on doing it, just asking if there is anything people know to make it easier. I also will be installing fabspeed supersport exhaust.

Thanks

I can't help with installation instructions or tips, but I'm subscribing and hoping for some candid reviews regarding before/after comfort levels. I wouldn't mind installing a set of these progressive springs myself, but I absolutely love the "comfort" level of the stock 991 suspension (after having a lowered car before this).

Relatively "easy" procedure on the C2. Should take you about 2 hours, maybe a bit more than that if you've never done this before. If I get some time later today I may be able to post-up the step-by-step directions. I've done this already with my C4S, which was more complex due to the AWD, and had some challenges with the front suspension removal. But, other than that with what I know now the install would have been a breeze on a non-AWD car.

As for tips? I am sure others can post their own experience, but most would have to agree with the following....

First, make sure you have either the proper 21mm strut nut removal tool, or fabricate one as described by Elephant Racing posts. For majority of us, buying the tool is the way to go. I purchased one from ECS Tuning. You won't be able to make any progress removing the camber plate without this tool.

Also, on the C2 if you are replacing the springs only you should be able to replace them in place without removing the strut completely. You can disconnect the strut from the camber plate and then remove the camber plate. The opening (where the camber plate was) should be large enough for you to wiggle the old spring out and the new spring in over the strut.

Oh, and you should plan on doing an alignment after the install. Not always 100% necessary, but good to get alignment checked before you find out the hard way later! One thing that some of us have done is mark the position of the strut nuts before you loosen, and when re-installing make sure they are torqued to spec ft/lbs in the exact same position.

Good Luck and post pics!

Oh, just one more thing... Don't drop or lose any of the nuts from the strut mounts!

The nuts are 21mm, which I found you can't just go out to local Lowes or HD to replace. I dropped one at the front of the car while under the hood, and it disappeared down into spaces I couldn't even get light to around the front suspension... I figured it might have dropped down to the front underbody panel, so I even removed that to try and retrieve the nut -- but it was nowhere to be seen! Doh!

Unless you have better sources than I do, you may need to order a replacement from PAG. Not pricey, just a PITA that I searched all possible auto parts, hardware and big-box stores for a replacement and finally gave up as nowhere did I find the appropriate 21mm nut!

Sounds like you got them installed. How is the ride quality so far?

Ok guys I got these installed. I did them in my garage with basic tools and rented a spring compressor. Fronts are very easy to do. So are the rears but U have to disconnect some of the suspension links to move the hub enough to drop the whole strut assembly. Did the springs as well as the fabspeed supersport exhaust all on one Saturday. Started work at 10.30 am, had to leave the house for spring compressor as well as some errends for 1.5 hours and finished everything at 6.30 pm.

The car sits very very nice now. Before there was a huge gap in the wheel well not it sits aggressive. The ride quality is a little more bumpy, I would say 25% more then stock. The springs quality is great and I am happy that gmg matched these with the stock struts so those won't blow out.

I will post some before and after pics here in a little but after dinner.

I did get an alignment done today, I did feel a difference in the handling after the installation so I knew I needed an alignment for sure.

The dealer told me that with these springs they could not get any more camber out of the front. All they where able to get was -.7, I was hoping for -1.5. Maybe someone from GMG can respond to this and let me know what they think. Rears I am running -1.6

I will scan and post the alignment sheet tomorrow from my office as I don't have a scanner at home.

Thanks for the informative posts and the pictures.

Would you happen to have any "before" pics so that we can objectively compare the drop side by side? It seems like the GMG springs do not drop the car as low as some other springs. Then again, "S" models do sit lower than non-S (unless I'm wrong). That may be the reason why my eyes are not seeing much of a difference compared to my car.

No, you are correct. This 3.4 doesn't have PASM or S-PASM. Cars with PASM (S cars this is standard I believe) sit 10mm lower, and S-PASM sits an additional 10mm for 20mm drop all around. By contrast, if you see an S car with H&R Sport Springs, the drop is 25mm all around.

I will post up some before pics, with my car being base model with no sport suspension it sat super high. This is a huge difference in ride height on my car .
