It would be laughable if it would only come in PDK. They want maximum driver involvement but offer it in a PDK.

2 things...

#1 The article specifically stated this car would be offered with a single clutch manual transmission.

#2 Why would PDK mean less driver involvement? Isn't this a preference, rather than a fact?

Objectively speaking, I think it's reasonable to say that a manual transmission is more "involving" to drive than a PDK.

Reasonable, depending on preference and perspective. I would disagree that your statement is objective. It is definitely preference, and differs between drivers (and perhaps for each car). It is also why I applaud Porsche for giving its customers a choice again (after removing it, and suffering backlash from faithful enthusiasts of the brand).

Preference and perspective don't apply to this objective statement, my friend. A manual transmission equates to more driver involvement simply because you're required to manually move the gear lever into a correct position and operate a clutch every time you shift. The driver is physically performing two additional tasks that are not required with a PDK transmission; hence, the driver is more "involved." This isn't a PDK diss or an "experience/preference" comparison at all; this is just stating a fact.

What you're talking about is different-- along the lines of driver experience and preference. PDK can be just as fun (if not more), more accurate, quicker, giving you a different experience, etc., but these are two different things.

A manual is no doubt requiring more involvement, but it is never quicker. On my 2nd PDK car and it is a competitive advantage, whether on track or on normal roads. I'm using this advantage!

Fun can dictate more involvement, not more movement. Ever see a child that has more 'fun' in class be more involved? That same motion of sitting in a chair doesn't equate (necessarily) to involvement. BUT - I've also seen multiple people sit in the same class, and some will have fun, while others do not. It depends on experience/preference - which can then motivate involvement.

If one is faster, perhaps more attention is paid to passing other cars, instead of following them. It is all about preference. Ever try to worry about the 1-2 shift, because it is required in less than 2 seconds? Then again 2 seconds later (less for some cars).

Movement doesn't equal involvement. Involvement is different, depending on preference (it has to be the biggest thing I've learned here on this forum - preference trumps every measurable statistic).

All I need to know is this. I have more FUN in my PDK car than I had in my MT car.

I think in 12 more pages we will be coming close to some form of agreement. 😅

LSs1Power is infamous around these parts
It seems to me that Porsche doesn't want to admit the mistake of dropping the manual option on GT3 and Turbo cars so they come up with this marketing gimmick to go around it.

Im fine with anything they do as long as they bring back the manual option.

Hopefully this means manual option across the Carrera lineup in the 991.2 version.

My friends and I have been saying to eachother for years that the ideal 911 is the Carrera suspension, ride height, comforts, etc. coupled with a GT3 motor. Sounds like this just might finally be it.
