MKAH's Guards Red X51 Buy and Build
I'm a little late posting on 6speed, but this thread can serve as my intro and to document my journey with this car, similar to my E36 M3 build thread that I will link in this thread. I purchased the car 3 months ago and here is my story:
So after a year of searching cars.com for over a year and lurking on Porsche forums since 2014, I have finally purchased my first Porsche; a 2013 911 C2S with the X51 power package and a 7 speed manual gearbox. I actually found it through a forum member, STG991's, "Hot for sale pick of the week" thread. It was exactly what I had been searching for and I knew that it was the one immediately upon seeing the listing. I called up Tom Wood Porsche in Indianapolis, IN and we worked out a deal that I could not pass up.
One week later, I was on my way up from Baton Rouge, LA (an 810 mile trek). We left at 3:30 AM and arrived at 4 PM. I chose to trade in my 2008 BMW 335i (pictured below). I have been into modifying and racing BMW's competitively with National Autosport Association for some time now, but I have always had a soft spot for a clean Porsche. Here is my E36 M3 race car build for anyone who is interested in seeing some of the work I have done in the past. It is a never ending project
When I arrived at the dealer, they had just finished detailing the car and it looked absolutely flawless. Upon seeing it, I knew that I had made the right choice.
After finishing up a bit of paperwork, we started back to Decatur, AL (another 6 hour trip) to stay with family. When we arrived at 12 P.M., we were exhausted.
After taking a quick break to sleep, we got up at 7 A.M. and finished the journey home to Baton Rouge:
The trip was exhausting but extremely exciting. I can't begin to describe how much better this car is than I expected. I had test driven numerous 991s before purchase, but this car is absolutely flawless. The only thing I can compare it to is my E36 M3 race car before the full cage, but with modern amenities and amazing comfort. The turn-in and grip are absolutely astounding and the noise is second to none. I have no doubt that I could lap a race track quicker in this stock 991 than I could in my GTS3 race car. I'm really enjoying the PSE and the gargle of the exhaust upon lifting off the throttle as my last car was turbocharged and sounded like a vacuum cleaner. This is a car that I can't ever imagine getting tired of and I'm extremely pleased with my decision to jump ships to Porsche. The M4 that I test drove seems extremely inferior in both quality and performance (and I've been a die-hard BMW guy for years). Here are some shots I took of it after cleaning it up:
Absolutely LOVING the 7MT. I don't understand how some people claim that this transmission is subpar. Maybe BMW transmissions are just terrible, skewing my perception of a good trans, but this thing is amazing!
I got my GMP 15mm rear and 7mm front spacers installed yesterday. I think the rear may be a little much, so I'm considering moving down to 12mm in the rear.
Here is a before picture for reference:
Here are the after pics:
The rennline mesh kit will be installed by the dealer next week. I'll also be taking the car to get 30% tint all around.
My buddy took some rolling shots for me today as well as filming a pretty cool video:
Had the Rennline 5 piece mesh grill set installed yesterday by my dealer. They said they had to modify one of the mesh grills a bit to get a perfect fit, but the install was very smooth otherwise. I think they turned out great!
A few new parts came in the mail! Got rid of the dealer license plate frame and replaced it with a slime line Porsche frame. Also, I decided to get rid of the plastic valve stem caps and replace them with the metal caps.
The incandescent side markers really clash with Guards Red, so I replaced them with the clear LED side markers. I think they look much better!
I had 35% Suntek carbon CXP tint installed today. I think it turned out pretty well! Not too dark, but not too light either.

Congrats and nice write up. I had a similar situation in purchasing mine, seems I couldn't find one locally in Louisiana that met my criteria. I'm on the north shore so if you find a nice weekend drive somewhere let me know. I'm always up for a drive.

Thanks! Can't figure out why my pictures aren't working. I'm pretty much ALWAYS free for a drive. Whenever you aren't busy, send me a PM. I'll be at cars and coffee NOLA next weekend.

I finally decided to take the car to a local detailing shop (Hi Performance Detail in Baton Rouge, LA) to have a full paint correction, modesta BC-05 coating applied, and a full front XPEL clear bra installed. The decision was prompted after the car reached 11,000 miles as well as acquiring a few rock chips (done by the previous owner) and swirls in the paint.
I can honestly say it looks better than new; the guys at Hi Performance did an amazing job. Here are some pictures of the process and the end results:
Unfortunately my badges came in AFTER the car was detailed. Luckily they said that they would go over the rear if I brought it back in.
Enjoying the sight of my new addition
At the end of the day, I'm very pleased with the quality of the work performed on my car. It's also very nice knowing that it wont gain any additional rock chips!

Came out looking good! I had the Expel done to the front of mine after buying it also in addition to full paint correction and CQuartz applied. My detail guy is EAS Auto in New Orleans and he's since hard wired my escort and some other minor adds. I plan on getting the rest of the car wrapped in Expel also to help in the inevitable event some A-hole opens a door on me.
It definetly helps in cleaning, I did mine today in under 20min.
Sorry I couldn't make the cars and coffee, I had other things going on but I'm sure I'll see you at an event in the future.

Sure thing - it's on the long list of what always turns out to be very expensive adds lol.
I'm looking at a sport design steering wheel first (the one thing the car didn't have but I wish it did) and a Kline exhaust to enhance my PSE more hehe.
I'm happy with just the front for now but maybe late next year I'll add the wrap,to the doors and rear, my roof is glass so not much there.

Just adding an exhaust wouldn't void the warranty. My serv manager at the dealer even suggested that they would install it if I wanted to get one. It's not like you're tuning the engine or adding any chips it's just an exhaust he said.

Well I'm happy to hear it. BMW isn't so easy going when it comes to warranty claims. Although an exhaust really can not damage the car, BMW will deny warranty work if you have one installed. Glad to hear Porsche doesn't have the same mentality. Please contact me if you install something; I would love to come check it out!
