New Set of tires...Inquiries first

Guys:

If you can help me out it would be a lot of help.

Going to buy an entire set of new tires and wanted to see if you guys had some insight.

Have always bought the stock size make and model:
Front: 245/35ZR20 (91Y)
Rear: 305/30ZR20 (103Y) XL

Seems i can save a little bit by going with:
Front: 245/35ZR20 (95Y) XL

Differences?

Also...Any experience from owners who switched to Michelin Pilot Super Sports?

iknow this may be a stupid question to some, but want to clear this all up before spending over 1K.

MPSS are fantastic tires. I loved them from the 1st mile I drove on them. Unfortunately they are still on galactic back order.

I've seen a few different PZero front tires pop up with different designation which mean they supposedly worked with the car mfg and came up with a special tire for their cars. Until someone in the tire industry can show me a cut away view showing the differences between a N0, N1 PZero and a regular PZero, I tend to think it's just marketing especially since all the PZeros have the same ratings.

But I'm one that puts non Porsche air in their tires so I'm not a purest.

I can't wait to get MPSS myself. I have another set of P-Zero rears in my future before I wear out the fronts, then it's MPSS all the way around.

Maybe I will do it sooner than needed if they become available, seeing as they are suddenly made of unobtainium.

How many miles do you have on your PZero's?

My OEM set got so noisy and cupped I had to remove them around 9500 miles. Right after I installed MPSS (my 2nd set of tires) I had my car's alignment checked and it had some camber issues which probably caused the problem. Once they reset everything the 2nd set of tires were really quiet right up to the end of their life and my 3rd set of tires which are PZero's again have been whisper quiet as well.

When you change out your tires have your alignment checked and see if it's out.

Have had both MPSS and P Zero on two different Porsche cars. I am a MPSS fan when it comes to ride, noise and grip on dry and wet surfaces. Went from P ZERO oem to MPSS on my 4S never looked back.

Difference is the 91Y is rated for 1356 lbs and the 95Y is rated for 1521 lbs, so the 95 is a little heavier duty but will work fine. I wouldn't go the other way though if they were reversed.

I got about 8500 miles on my P zeros. My right rear got a nail in it about 4k miles, had it replaced. My tires are not cupped or anything. I had a 2010 Cayman S that had p zeros and when I went to the MPSS the tires were a lot quieter, I'm talking noticeable quieter. I'm thinking the same thing will happen on my TTS when I change them. The issue maybe be getting them as the MPSS seem to be backlogged in ordering. I was thinking I should just order 4 Michelins and have them when I need them.

Just put a new set of mpss on, the fronts arrived within a week and the rears came 2.5 weeks later from tire rack. The ride is great. I went up to 255 in the front and 305 in the rears.

I've got 15k on my Pzeros. The fronts are still ok with the rears getting close to replacement. I'm with the camp of replacing all around with MPSS when the rears finally go.

Besides for the noise factor what else do those that switched to MPSS's feel ... is turn in better/worse ? Anything obviously better over the factory P zero's ?

I usually like my dealer to install my tires since they don't scratch the rims, you get a loaner car and I can get my regular oil change done at the same time but I don't think they will install anything other than what is factory recommended.

For me the biggest benefit of MPSS is treadwear. You get out of "new tires every 6 months" mode, and buy them at much longer intervals. Almost normal-car intervals.

I just ordered MPSS factory sizes for my 991 c2s coupe. Can't wait for the install and to get it aligned.
