You are fine. Don't overthink this. just add oil. Find Mobil 1. It's around.

Maybe some gas too!

What kind of oil is mobile? You can mix oils all you want, by specification oils must be cross compatible. The only thing that matters is Porsche A40 approval. If that's on the label, it's fine. Wal-Mart sells Mobil 1 0W-40 and Castrol 0W-40, both Porsche A40 approved, both for $23 for a 5 quart jug.

You were trying to get an oil sample? So you removed the drain plug on the oil pan and nothing came out? Is that what you are saying?

Getting a sample? How?

Did you lose all your oil somewhere? Did you do an oil change and forget to fill in some new stuff? This all sounds very mysterious.

The mixing oil myth is a common misconception, perpetuated by the type of supposed gurus who will say something to the effect of; "I don't recommend mixing oils because of possible additive interference". Then, this nonsense gets requoted ad-nauseam and here we are.

This thread motivated me to check my oil and...yikes, it read "Min level reached!" Strange because I've never gotten a single warning or complaint about the oil level from the car.

I added a quart of Mobil 1 0W-50 (confirmed the Porsche A40 approval first) and now it's green and happy.

Thanks, thread!

I'm at 45K and the 13 C4S has never used (or needed) oil between changes unlike my previous Audi's.

I am amazed we have owners who apparently do not check their oil level on a regular basis. Granted newer cars do not use oil like the older Porsches, but oil levels and tire pressure should be checked regularly.

I'm still waiting to find out why, "I was trying to get an oil sample, but I couldn't get any".

And in a 991, you don't have to leave the drivers seat to do either!

I keep the TPMS display as my default. I had no idea oil was being consumed though, and really would have expected some kind of message from the car that it was low.

Well, when I went to check, it -was- yellow and read "min level reached." But I never heard a peep about it until I checked.
