I Want a Turbo But Find Them Ugly
Does anyone else find turbos ugly?
I think the 997 turbos were not bad looking
But now I just find 991's to look bloated.
I dont like the side air intake things and the spoiler.
A 991 carrera looks beautiful, but a turbo doesn't do it for me.
But UGH they are so fast and powerful.
I might go to the dealership and take another look at one.

Side air intake things are ducts for the intercoolers. You may be the first person here to think they're ugly.

I have never liked the turbos. Too much going on at the backend of the car. I also hate the aerocup kit on the GTS. I think it's the small compact spoiler that makes them unattractive and not the intakes as the GT3 RS is perfect.

I realize it has a purpose.
I DO however like how wide they are. Just my opinion.

Just get a C4S. 911 Magazine did an on road test of both cars (Issue 137) and said that for the first time, on the street, while the Turbo is the more powerful car, there is little practical difference in the two cars in everyday driving.

The turbos are beautiful cars. The side intake "thingys" are to let air in to the inter-coolers. All of this plus the movable rear wing is the turbo earmarks. Its obviously not for you if those earmarks are turn offs to you. I had 4 TT's up to a 997 TT and loved the look and the performance.
If the wide body look is what you ant go with the 4S as Grover 432 mentioned.

I don't think it's ugly but definitely not as attractive as the regular 911's. I'm also not a fan of the vents, however, I am a huge fan of the vents on the 981's. I think it's just the placement of the vents. The 981 Boxster/Cayman is in the middle of the car as oppose to the Turbo's towards to the top.

I too find the Turbos to be a little overwrought. A Carrera/S/GTS is way more subtle. I would be self-conscious showing up a funeral in a 911 Turbo if you know what I mean. It kind of has this juvenile aesthetic that is hard to quantify, much like the new Corvette.
That said, take a good hard look at the new Carrera S. I've driven it and it is basically as fast on the road as the 997 Turbo. No kidding. That 420hp rating is pure marketing. Those things are making 450+ to move like that. Get the 4S if you want the wide rear and AWD traction. Having driven it, and not liking the way the Turbo looks, there is no way I would buy a Turbo now.

I drove the 17 4s and 16 turbo serveral times back to back and found a huge difference in the midrange. Off the line they feel similar but the midrange "rush" in the 17 4s just isn't there. I prefer the exclusivty of the turbo here in the SF Bay Area as the "regular" 911's are so common. At first I thought the intercooler inlet ducts were too large but after understanding the function they performed, I started to really appreciate them. Looks are totally subjective so I think you vote with your pocketbook.

I think they are horribly ugly and agree, do not buy one.

Sorry if I offended anybody. Turbos look badass but yeah I dont find them pretty like a non-turbo. (then again i gues they're all turbos now)
I also am not a fan of any 911 as a convertible. Except the targa. Or a classic.
In my picky opinion, a porsche shuold look like a carrera .. with a hard top, in a dark color.
More class less flash.
But I am in Minnesota and a regular 911 is quite rare. If they were all over the place, then a turbo would maybe be more aesthetically unique.
CombatNinja: I disagree. I've driven a 997 turbos and 991.2 C2's and the turbos are always a LOT faster.
The 991.2 probably gets to 60 in about 3.8 or so. The turbo does it in under 3. That is a huge difference.
But I do like the C4s
Too bad the widebody doesn't look as pronounced as it did on the 997 4s
