ECU location

Does anyone know where it is physically? Same location as the 997? I'd like to check to see if it has been opened up or tampered with (bought the car used).

AFAIK the 911's all have the ECU located on the rear bulkhead of the cabin, inside the cabin.

The ECU enclosure is "buried" behind/under the rear seats.

Here's a write up/with pics on gaining access to the ECU though the steps may be different for your car depending upon how the rear of the cabin is configured.

You want to exercise the utmost caution when gaining access to the ECU.

The battery should be disconnected. Turn off the ignition and remove the key first!

Be very mindful of static electricity.

Avoid something in your shirt pocket falling out and landing on the cover or worse on the ECU module.

For other fasteners the assembly worker often dabs a bit of paint on the fasteners to signal they've been torqued/tightened. If there is any paint on the ECU enclosure fasteners look to see if these have been disturbed.

Look for wrench marks on the fastener sides that are used to *loosen* and *remove* the fasteners.

It looks like the PASM controller is back there, but not the ECU.

The ECU on a 991.2 is located in the passenger side engine compartment. Pull the engine inlet trim ring and engine compartment cover off(un-snaps) then carefully disconnect the engine compartment fan leads and pull the fans out.

Next Tail lights screws(2 per side), wing assembly mount screws(2 per side) have to come out. 4 small screws on the outer back of the wing assembly also(where the wing assembly meets the car). Once the screws are out for the wing assembly the entire assembly pulls forward(sits in a grooved area) before it can be taken off the car. Be sure to disconnect the wing assembly wiring harness before pulling the wing assembly out. Next, look for 2 large wiring harnesses that come together on the right side of the engine compartment. The ECU is under a black cover(cover snaps off). There are a few screws on the ECU bracket. The key is to pay attention to how Porsche designs things, there is a theme-go with it, work slow and careful and you should have no issues.

You have to take the spoiler off to get to the ECU? Weird. I'll take a look in the next few days.

Technically speaking, you do not have to remove the rear spoiler assembly but It will be extremely hard to access and remove the ECU without this step.
