Any concerns with the 993 TT?
I'm looking to get into a 993 TT. I've heard that this car just like the 996 is susceptible to both pop out of gear issues as well as rms. Are there any other things I need to look out for with this car? The car I'm looking at is a polar on black 1996 TT, with >40K miles, at park place in Washington.

Get it checked out, they don't have the RMS or trans issue, that's the 996, not the 993. There very well made.
Things that might not last are the shocks, they start to leak right around 40k.
Park Place has some nice cars, but they are not always in the best shape, so have ANOTHER shop check it out first. I'm local & think that I looked at this car about a month ago, looks good up close, but didn't look at the interior.

As the last of the breed as well as the end of the 993 production run, the 1996-1997 turbos are generally considered to be bullet-proof. Great engines, drivetrains, chassis design, etc., etc.
That having been said, abused or neglected cars can get VERY EXPENSIVE fast. Get the PPI done and, if advised, do a leakdown compression test. The owner may protest (understandably as it's engine-invasive), but if the PPI suggests a problem you'll want to dig deeper. Make sure the car has ALL of its paperwork to show regular maintenance was done properly. And trust your gut. If you get a bad vibe, simply walk. There are always a few good 993TTs for sale.
And buy the best car you can within your available budget.
Good luck and enjoy the hunt!

Saw the car at Park Place. Nice car, but had the usual rock chips in the front.
As said above, do not trust Park Place to do a good job of PPI. If serious, get the PPI done at Chris's German Auto, Squires, or Barrier Porsche. Also, Park Place usually has pretty high prices.

993TT commonly need a top end overhaul which can cost $10K+. Given the mileage on that car, I'd expect a deeper discount on the price...
Cantrell Motorsports is another excellent place to have a PPI done; they service my cars and are great.
BTW - I bought my 993TT from Park Place.

That car has been sitting there a long time. I looked at it last year in May before I bought my 993TT. I even test drove that one. Car was in good shape, and drove ok. I do recall it needing an alignment. I can't remember how the power felt since it was so long ago.
I think they have had a few people get inspections done, but none have ever followed through with it. Not sure if there are issues or not. Just be aware that many people have had really bad experiences with Park Place. After my attempt to purchase a car there, I will never buy anything from them.

FYI - People have had many bad experiences with every dealer on the planet. I've bought 6 cars from PP and have never had a problem. As with any used car purchase, one has to do their homework; regardless of the dealer.

To be fair....do research on the cost of the top end and other things.. Several people I know had to replace the turbos over time....I let mine cool off for 1 min to 2 min (depends on driving style). I keep running into 993tt cars that have rebuilds. Not sure if that is just the owners wanted to baby them or out of need.
That being said, I love my 993...sort of wich sometimes I had the 993tt....not a lot as I like the A/C and improved reliability, but often enough to look at this thread.
No such thing and a problem free 400hp car...nature of the beast.
Good luck.
