Best Battery Charger/Maintainer.

Since I am not driving the 993TT's that much (about 1000 mile/year), always having dead batts, hence I have to buy new Porsche battery every year or so, since 1997.

Whats the best battery charge maintainer for Porsche 993's!

Also, since the price of Porsche battery, testing and installation at Porsche dealer has increased over the years, whats the best alternate to OEM Porsche Batteries for 993 cars.

I use the Porsche one that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Works perfect.

Thanks guys. I was recommended choice of BatteryMinder 12117

http://www.batteryminders.com/batter...o-p-16134.html

OR Schumacher!

http://store.schumachermart.com/sc-1200a.html

Not sure which to use/choose...guess gona go for the first chioce.

As for Porsche product - heard from Porsche dealer that its not effective, as it uses the vehicle's own lighter socket!

The Porsche maintainer works every bit as good as the other products. I own several battery maintainers and the Porsche product works great. Not to mention you don't have "pigtails" hanging out somewhere to charge or, which would be a PITA, pop the hood each time. Remember, at least on the 996, the Porsche cig lighters are wired to the battery. I just learned that from last months Panorama. Get the Porsche one.... I've been using one for years now with tremendous success. If you can find the older Porsche one it's a lot less expensive. It's not as pretty as the new one but it works just fine.

I agree with deputydog - My reasearch determined that the cigarette lighter on the 993 is also wired to the battery and a great way to charge. It is easy to plug in and remove for a quick drive during nice weather during the winter months.

Thank you guys. I am still undecided over which product to buy, leaning toward BatteryMinder model 12117, for my 993TT.

See link from another thread on here - about Porsche Charger!

There is nothing wrong with the Porsche charger... Porsche batteries suck but the Porsche tender is fine. This isn't rocket science. Don't overthink it.

+1 I've been using the porsche maintainer for years. I keep it plugged into the wall and car lighter. Pop her out for a quick spin and then shut the car down and pop it right back in the lighter. I think I got mine from Sunset porsche for $50-60. I'm using an optima red top battery for years. If it ever runs out, costco will take it back and give you another.

I have been using the gen.1 Porsche charger for years and t works great. I just recently purchased a Ctek off ebay for $60 that is the same one Porsche sells as their gen.2 unit for $120. Get the Ctek for the same price as the gen.1 Porsche one and you wouldnt be disappointed.

Thanks. I already ordered and got the Ctek 3600. Works fine, but takes quite a while to charge the Porsche battery. So I just placed another order for Ctek 7000. Supposedly more powerfull than the 3600. Hope it does perform/charge faster.

Cheers.

I have the 3600 as well and have been very tempted by the 7000. Bentley uses the 7000 as their OEM rebranded kit they sell for who knows how much over the counter. Please let me know how the 7000 works out.

Just got it, Ctek 7000, works well - more power / fast charging. Much more to my liking than the less powerfull 3600 (both work well, needed faster charging power, and the 7000 model is definitely the one for me). Thanks to all for the input. Cheers.
