Current reliability of 993tt?

So these cars are getting up there in age- I hear great things about their reliability- question is, would any of you trade up to a 996tt for less problems? More effective AC?

Thanks!

I don't see anyone with a 993 going to a 996. Maybe a 997 like LT1 said.

Very well built car. If you don't mod much, they can go far with minimal problems.
The 996 requires almost the same number of visits to the shop IME.
Good luck!

There are very few cars I'd trade for a 996. And a 993 tt is surely not one of them.

Never. Personally, I don't consider going from a 993tt to a 996tt as a move up.

Let me think about that...NO and NO!

Nothing against the 996TT but I have nothing but wonderful experiences with my 993TTs.

the 993TT is the car I would never trade for anything. And mine is modded to 675-700+HP, hitting 160mph on the back straight at Watkins Glen last weekend-on low boost. But even stock, I wouldn't trade it.

My 996TT (a 2005 TSCab) is modded too, but it's just a different car.

Of all the cars I've ever owned, and that's a lot at 58 years old , my 1996 993 Turbo is the one car I would buy back in a heartbeat.

Is there a reason none of you would go to the 996, other than personal preference?

Market value for 996s are horrible. Many people don't like the interiors and broken eggshell lights, I'm one of them.

993s are argued, appropriately so, to be the best 911 run to date. The cars have classic lines, bullet proof designs and were produced in far more limited quantities. For example, only 299 C4S cars were imported into the U.S. in 1998. That number would be far higher for 996s.

While 996s are superior in terms of civility and more modern interiors, to me the design lines are bland and the market is overflowing with them. They are every inch a Porsche; however, they are not destined to be classic Porsches... aside from the GT2s, GT3s, GT3RS's and a few other limited production runs.

It all boils down to what's your preference. 993s are keepers whereas 996s have already been (greatly) displaced by 997s (which, incidentally, drew their styling from the 993s!).

BUT, at the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Drive what makes ya' smile
