19 wheels on 993 TT

In talking with a 993 TT owner a while back, 19" wheels came up in discussion. The owner stated that he had run a 19" set of wheels for a period of time and then switched back to 18" wheels. The reason being that the 19" wheels didn't perform well. Evidently the suspension doesn't handle as well with 19's.

Are there any owners here that run or have run a 19" wheel that can give me some insight on this?

Thanks
Steve

19's on a 993 are for someone who should not be driving a Porsche. If they can even fit, they will screw up the handling of the car. I have never heard of anyone running 19's on a pre 996 (1999+) Porsche. I wouldn't even run 19's on a 996, the 996's are also designed to run 18's, not 19's.

honestly, it may look nicer, but it really messes up the performance the the whole drive train on the car, he should have never done that, i was going to go 20's for the look, but after doing my research on the 20's on a 997, everyone commented saying that it isn't a good look for the 20's... but make sure you change the wheels out....

Well, I know they can fit as I have been looking at 993 TT's for sale and I see some of them have 19's. Sounds like not a good idea though.

My co-worker lasted 1 week with 19's on his turbo before he ran back to his 18's

It just isn't the car it was meant to be w/o the right shoes

Aftermarket 18's acceptable?

Is it due to the physical size of the 19" wheel that changes the driving feel or is it the weight?

For instance, what if I wanted to run an HRE 547 in an 18" configuration? Should be fine, correct? I really don't care for the look of the stock wheels.

Niche is infamous around these parts
My RUF turbo R came with 19' Ruf wheels and if I could, I would go to 18. My brakes are too big for that, but I agree the 993 is better off without them.
