Exclamation Super quick! Is this a 993 Turbo or Turbo S?

Hello board,

I'm not expert in Porsche but I would like to know if this is a 993 Turbo or 993 Turbo S (it's 4wd from what I have seen in person).

Looking through pictures in the web seems the Turbo S were made in a small batch and had CF dash (which this one doesn't) and few other things like the rear fenders which has vent scoop (the wing also) , which this one does, also it does have the quad exhaust (double tip per side) and it's a late 96 production, certainly as 97 model year, the year that was produced the Turbo S.

Also, when opening the door, the side steps where it says "Turbo" this one says only "turbo" and not "turbo S" but maybe this wans't available at the time when was constructed the car (seems to be a early 97 build).

Here is the VIN: WP0ZZZ99ZVS370742

Here are the actual pics of the said Porsche

Thanks

-Diego

Diego,

IIRC, the turbo S came with yellow calipers.

From what I have been reading, the turbo S not exactly came with yellow calipers, but it could be ordered with RED also or perhaps this was a late 96 Turbo S that didn't come with round fog lamps, turbo S side step plaque, etc etc. as well no CF dash as this one was specially ordered as option full leather wrapp dash, sport seats, etc.

I still in doubt

EDIT: Fellow memebrs, could you make me another favor and post/ask members anywhere you could think of, if we could source a euro Turbo S VIN number? I got a idea and I would like to compare something against this Porsche in the system. I found a Turbo S VIN, but it's a US-Canadien version, but I would need a "RoW" or euro spec Turbo S instead, this to get a more consistent info. Thanks!!

Im pretty sure...

... This is just a Turbo car with lots of TLC and $$$ put into it. Remember Porsche will build anything you want. They will probably wrap the pedals in leather if you so choose. They don't want you to go substituting with another brand, Right?

Turbo S options were so tasteful and perfect that they are still very desired today.

Inside door panels

the Turbo S was completely carbon trimmed even on the inside door panels and door releases. These were standard equipment so not only the dash and gauge surround. Seriously appointed cars. Something like 20K in extra carbon fiber if you were to appoint a standard turbo car with it. I think even the AC vents, and rearview mirror were wrapped in leather too.

That's true. Expensive body work to do. But probably not original.

Turbo S - Options were free

Back when the 993 Turbo S came out, it had 1 price. I am not sure exactly what that price was, but they were all 1 price.

However, that 1 price meant that options were FREE. You could add ANY and ALL options for that same 1 price, so most 993 Turbo S were LOADED to the gills. Maybe the original owner who ordered this particular car did NOT like carbon fiber...who knows. But the key is, 993 Turbo S could be ordered any way with any options for that same 1 price.

Just because this one doesn't have the other exact same options of another Turbo S does not mean it is NOT a Turbo S.

To be sure, you just need to check the VIN and the cars paperwork. Short of that, it could just be a "regular" 993 Turbo with a S affixed to the rear....that would be very tasteless IMO.

Thanks for the input all you. I would really like to know if someone on here knows any Porsche worker that could check the VIN given in my first post and certified if it's or not a Turbo S from factory. I'm still in doubt and I'm crossing my fingers that it could be a real Turbo S just bit different from the known Turbo S goodies/differences, but until Porsche or someone that have acces to Porsche system and enter this VIN, all is speculation I guess....

This is not a Turbo S!

Diego R...this is not a 993 Turbo S. I am familiar with this car, it was ordered as a Turbo and then converted into a Turbo S clone by its original owner using OEM parts at the country's only existing Porsche dealer. It was one expensive mod!! The car is 1 owener from new.

If you look closely, aside from missing the CF interior trim, it also has the standrad turbo front lip spoiler. Also, the engine and turbos are standard, not the upgraded Turbo S setup. Non the less, tha car is in very good condition.

Hope this solves the mistery.

Regards,

Motoman
