Exclusive 6speedonline Driver Education Day At Pocono International Raceway North Cou
Exclusive 6SpeedOnline Driver Education Day at Pocono International Raceway North Course on Thursday, September 16, 2004
I have spoken to my long time friend, Mr. Joe Casella, who owns and operates PDA (Performance Drivers Association) http://www.pdadrivingschool.com/ about hosting an Exclusive 6SpeedOnline Member Education Day at Pocono International Raceway (PIR). He was very excited about helping us out.
PDA has a long and great relationship with PIR and they have agreed to hold the Thursday, September 16, 2004 date until April 22, 2004. That represents the point of no return. In order for this event to be viable, we need approximately 50-60 cars prepaid for the event. So, what does this event entail you ask? See below:
The Background:
First and foremost, this driver education training is open to all 6SpeedOnline members, both novice and experienced, men and women. The training will serve to improve your driving skills and afford you more of an advantage in panic situations on public roads. It will allow you to experience what your Porsche was designed for in a safe and fun environment. I have been doing this for nearly 20 years and can say it has greatly improved my driving skills. There is something to be learned by everyone!! And don’t let distance be a deterrent. Stay overnight and meet other members!!!! I have made long-lasting relationships at these events!!
The Track:
Pocono International Raceway is located in Pocono, Pennsylvania. The track consists of a Tri-Oval with additional In-field routes. In general, driving events are held on only portions of the track. In our case, we will use what is called the “North Course”. If you link to the map below, and click on the number “3”, you will see the North Course highlighted. http://www.pdadrivingschool.com/pages/poconoMaps.htm
This particular course has a longer straightaway that allows a little more fun, especially for us Porsche afficionados!!
The Run Groups:
There are three run groups, novice, intermediate and advanced.
The Equipment:
You will need to have your car tech inspected prior to the event by your own mechanic with a PDA tech sheet signed by him OR at the event by PDA tech staff. They encourage the pre-inspection to speed things up the day of the event. Please see the PDA website for additional information concerning this. http://www.pdadrivingschool.com/index.htm
Other than that, you will need a helmet, long sleeves, long pants and a seatbelt. Check the PDA website for any other additional information. Inquire with PDA about loaner helmets or helmets for purchase.
The Run Sessions:
The Run Groups cycle their time on the track. Each group can expect 30 minute driving sessions for a total of about 2 ½ hours of track time for the day.
The Cost:
$200.00 per car (assuming 60 cars minimum)
The Bottom Line:
Due to my relationship with PDA and, in turn, their relationship with Pocono International Raceway, we have been afforded a unique opportunity here. Of course we could sign up for one of PDA’s normal schools but wouldn’t it be fantastic if 6SpeedOnline Members were all there together with their Porsches?? You betcha!!! So, here is the deal……………
We have until Thursday, April 22, 2004 to make a really good showing of interest by putting our money where our mouths are!!
We need commitments NOW if this is going to fly!!
If there are enough prepaid participants by April 22 and it looks like we can round up a few stragglers in the weeks and months to come then the track will be reserved and we will have our exclusive 6SpeedOnline track day in September!!
If there are not enough prepaid participants by April 22, we will lose the track reservation and all prepaid spots will be refunded.
So, this is what you need to do:
!!!!DO THIS NOW....TIME IS VERY LIMITED!!!!!
This event is rain or shine.
Attention Admins and Moderators:
I have asked Darren if this can stay in all of the posted forums in order to get the greatest viewing potential. I politely ask that it not be moved since we need 50-60 commitments in a short period of time.
Thanks for your consideration!

The Run Groups:
There are three run groups, novice, intermediate and advanced.
- The Novice Group will receive classroom instruction as well as One-On-One instruction in their car during their time on the track. It is not a race and there isn’t any pressure. You proceed at your own pace and learn as you go. PDA makes you feel safe and comfortable so don’t feel intimidated. You will be amazed at how quickly your skills improve!!
- The Intermediate Group will have its own class and will consist of those with some prior experience and those novices that instructors feel have enough skill to move up. You are not stuck in a group for the whole day!
- The Advanced Group will consist of those seasoned drivers that have extensive experience.
