Got the itch!! for a 993

Hello Gentlemen..
I'm in the middle of a 993 funk here.. Unfortunately, I was never well informed about this model..
Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as reliability in contrast to the 996/7? I'm looking for a c4s as an everyday driver. Is this a reasonable car to think of driving daily or should I be looking for a sunday driver?

Any advice is appreciated... I'll me relocating to Pittsburgh PA pretty soon and am looking for another 4wd or awd car... I've been eying up the rs4 but am not ready to pull that trigger yet as I've found a new love for the 993..

993 and 996's are both reliable, although a very different car.

the 996 is more luxurious and has the reputation of a bit of a caddilac.

the 993 is more of a traditional porsche and the last of the air cooled.

now for my opinion.

993 looks far better
996 more comfy and lush
993 will always be worth more than a 996 (at this point) as it will be more of a coolectible car - last air cooled.
993 still has a race inspired motor, hand built and is far far better than a 996 production motor (not true for 996 gt3 or 996tt).

i'd go for the 993 over a 996

The build quality on the 993 is much better. I owned a Boxster (vertually the same interior as a 996) and the quality if the interior materials were far inferior. There was much more use of pastics.

Join Rennlist.com There is a nice C4 for sale right now but it is not an S. i would never think of driving mine every day but a lot do. The thing that I wonder about is driving it in very cold weather because it takes so long to warm up.

my .02 worth is the 993 over the 996 or 997.. Classic lines and superior materials.. More of an enthusiasts machine.. Very good as a daily driver as well. Your call though.. Good luck with your decision..

have you driven a 993 yet? Its best you see for yourself. thatw ill definitely help you pull teh trigger. From what i have heard, the non-turbo 996 can be handful, from my experience the 993 seems to be bullet-proof if well cared for and maintained. Best of luck in your choice.

Good luck finding a good C4S. I have been looking for over a year, & just picked on up tonight. In a 500mi search, only 4 popped up.

The downside is BB on them is $25-30k, the prices are $50-65k.

Driving them back to back, the 993 is much more of a drivers car, & "feels" faster, but is not. The 993 has much better feedback, & corners much nicer.

The interior, is much nicer on the 996, while kind of cheap looking, it just has a lot more stuff, better HVAC controls, better radio, better AC. It looks a lot more modern. The 993 is kind of sparten, & not the best layout.

But the 996 is FAR cheaper, but it will lose far more value.

In the end, drive both, decide what you like better.
