993 market check

Looking at a 97 Targa w/ 45k on the clock. Service history is good, no accidents or paint work. PPI checked out fine. About what's its value?

Noel,
Nice find. An unmolested Targa i.e. low mileage, no accidents, good history should fetch high 30's. also depends somewhat on options, manual trans vs tip, colour combo etc. If the PPI was unbiased and you were looking for a Targa sounds like a keeper.

I think there is a 993 market update in this month's or last month's Excellence magazine. I think mid-30's is about right though.. just depends on how good a shape the car is in and options..

Feb 2008 excellence mag shows the 1997 Carrera 2 Targa as follows:

Excellent / so-so

2003 $46600 / $36348
2004 $44850 / $34983
2005 $40425 / $31532
2006 $36438 / $28421
2007 $34625 / $22749

I have been looking for a 95' C4 and have not found many that are
selling for $$ that the excellence is showing the value to be.
It is a good source to site when trying to negotiate the price down.

Yes, there are FEW Targa's for sale, most seam to be well over $35k, with under 50kmi, my guess would be $38-40k.

make sure the top doesn't leak, & that it doesn't whistle when you open & close it at speed.

FWIW, I think Excellence valuations are a little high and cars can be purchased for less. I paid $31 K for my 96 C2 Jan 2007, with 68K. I think geography plays into pricing as well though, as there are a lot more Porsches here in so Cal than in some other parts of the country, so supply and demand will play into it. There wern't as many Targa made, so you have to contend with a little rarity as well. I would guess high $30s unless the mileage is exceptionally high or low, then adjust accordingly.
Personally, I am not afrain of mileage on a 911 of any vintage, except for the 996, as my SC had 170K when I sold it, and it ran very strong. so did our 68 with over 200K.
