993 poor performance
Hi al iam new here and need some help my car is 993 targa 1996 variocam
the problem is the performance is weak especially at low rpm you feel its slow there is no tourqe ,when i floor it from zero on it change to second gear at 5000 rpm wich is not right it should change at 6200 as ive seen in othe cars , when you drive the car you feel its restricted as if someone is holding it or performing brakes . i serviced the car at the dealer and they say its ok but i didnt think so , so i took it for a dyno test and the result was as i expected 215 whp !! what should i check or change to fix the problem (gear oil, diferential oil never been changed before car has 70000 miles now). the mechanic performed a compression test the result was 140psi for all cylinders .also timming is correct , car starts easy idles ok no smoke no leaks at all.any input would be appreciated .
here is a list the parts that i changed recently:
1-fuel filter
2-spark plugs
3-air flow sensor
4-cleaned all inectors
5-fan
6-harness
7-ignition coil
8-sender
9-fuel pump
10-air filter

I got the car back today after changing the gear oil and filter and vacuum spliter ,, the car runs much better alot of low end tourqe very smooth through the rpm and the gear changes are nice and it revs at 1st gear to 6200 rpm .. thought why not check the gain and take it for a dyno run .. for my surprise the results came the same 215whp is that real any possibility the dyno is wrong as the car runs very fast ?

Varioram really feel it @ part throttle in the midrange.
Other then possibility a tune up, your fine. My C4S did 215whp also.

LOL, Varioram is really for low-midrang & part throttle, when you got WOT, it just opens the system up, so you would only see a change if the system was not opening up under WOT @ high RPM's.

I'll start a new thread about the targa top .

The only real thing is to see what other 993's do on that Dyno.

I ll try to ask the guy at the dyno shop if he has some data for other 993

What type of dyno is it? We typically see around 250 rwhp on a Dynojet or Mustang - a Tip will be less.
That said, typical causes of low power on the 3.6 motors are as follows:
a) verify that you are achieving full throttle body opening when you have someone press down on the gas pedal.
b) verify that both sides of your ignition are firing properly. disconnect one coil at the power terminal at a time, then start and note how it idles and revs. reconnect and repeat on other side - if you notice a difference you have a ignition fault
c) verify operation of the resonance valve - a non functioning valve will cause a 30 hp loss at the top end, along with a sharp rolloff of power above 5500 rpm

will fuel type affect the performance ? ill change the fuel next time i refill it might take 2 weeks cuz my car has a very big weird tank i will refill it with 98 RON , i was using euro IV ..and i think its rated at 95 RON

If it's chipped, going with 98 RON might make a difference over 95, depending on the programming. With the stock chip, it won't make much of a difference as it's so detuned to leave a big margin for a car that is poorly maintained and using poor fuel.
I forgot to mention that when we see 250-255 rwhp from a 993, that is after we chip the car. With the stock chip expect about 16-18 hp less.
