Quest for my 1st 993 as a Daily Driver?

Hello Guys, well I have looked at several Porsches over the past month and have decided the 993 is the only way to go for me atleast!! So far I have driven a 2006 997 which was a numb feeling drive to me, it doesn't feel like a Porsche to me. Than I drove two 996 twin turbos, a 6spd and a Tip and while these were amazing fast, I liked it better than the 997 but still missing the Porsche driving experience. I drove a 97 C2S with the full aero kit which was amazing but the car had paintwork all over but looked great. I have visited several resellers and it amazes me the "Abuse" and mistreatment of so many cars out there. It looks like it will take quite awhile to find the "Right" car for me which I can patiently wait. I can't believe though as much as these cars cost new how people abuse and neglect such a beautiful car!

Anyway, I have owned only one Porsche before a 1987 911 coupe which I bought with 70k miles and sold with 112k mile about 15 years ago so its been a long time. The 993 has always been my favorite body style but I do love the 930 Turbo's and Slantnose Porsches as well but an old Turbo will take way to much maintenance for a daily driver. I am looking to drive the car 4-5 days per week and will put 10-12k miles per year on the car. I definitely prefer the coupe but a Cab might be possible as well since its the only convertible car I would ever consider buying.

I live in Burbank, Ca so I have been looking in LA and also Orange County but haven't found anything yet. It seems that as long as the car has been maintained and had the clutch replaced and possibly the top end valve job done since I guess its only a matter of time before all 993's seem to need the top end rebuilt, the car should be a great daily driver??

Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tom

To help expand your search try using Pcar collectors and PCA members. You can find people at sites like 6speed here, rennlist.com, classiccars.net I was on their site the other day and had a good amount of 911's in my area. Try yours.

I'd suggest reading Adrian Streether's 993 book as it gives you all sorts of information regarding these cars.

I'm also looking at a 993 at the moment and have it booked in for a PPI. Make sure that the dealership covers everything including the Compression test and leak down tests. If you can find a 993 that has had the top end done that's always a big plus...but not the be all that ends all as some cars can still have issues with oil leaks etc.

There's a guy in FL selling a stunning 993rs clone - very nicely done & it sounds as though it has been babied from day 1. Search the pca club site classifieds - this was a month or so ago.

I have a 95 993 C2 coupe and find it a little tough to use as a daily driver. I had to turn in my company vehicle a few weeks ago and tossed up the idea to use it as a daily driver. I live in Houston and am about 34 miles from work. I like driving the car (well actually love driving the car) and driving it daily just wasn't going to work. Ended up buying an 04 Cayenne Turbo and keeping the 993 for the weekends. Ok...so maybe just an excuse to buy another Porsche.

Yeah I think that was just an excuse to buy another Porsche!!! Wish I had that problem though, anyway I do have a Audi A6 4.2 for the road as well so my everyday driver for the Porsche would be 3 or 4 days a week most likely. The new Audi's are amazing road cars as well, the best sedan out there in my opinion. Enjoy the new Porsche and if you decide to sell your gorgeaous 993 let me know!

993 C2S for sale

Check with Dave Q. at Mirage International in San Diego. He can give you info on a beautiful 993 owned by Peter C. (Cant spell his last name). This car is the real deal...as I have been told. If you want a bone stock car...this is not the car for you. It has tasteful performance upgrades.

Regards,

Martin
