1995 911 Carrera, advice needed

hello,
i have recently been searching for 993 in the 40-50,000 mile range to use as a weekend fun car/ club track events ride. I do not plan to use this as a daily driver just something to enjoy driving in. so that being said i need some background info that i am having a hard time locating on the internet about this car.

1) i need to know what my upcoming services will be for mile range 40-90k miles. intervals

2)approx costs for these services.

3) parts that made need replaced outside of services in this time or are prone to more wear (ex. shocks, control arms, anything else to look out for)

After searching for this vehicle on cars.com, autotrader, ebay i am finding this car is typically selling for 25-35k. When i do a kelly blue book search for the same vehicles the highest value i can see recommended is 15k. Is there a reason for such a disparity and how much should i be looking to spend.

i have found 1 vehicle in particular that is the color combo i want + it has the fabspeed exhaust and HR lowering springs already included which were upgrades i was planning to do anyway. the car has 50k miles and the owner is asking 29k. What would be a good offer? any help is greatly appreciated.

You will not find one for 15k, for what you are looking for a 28-32k should get you a real nice one.

I would check out rennlist.org there are a lot of answers there. There are a couple real nice ones on there well taken care of for 29k.

They only need service every 30kmi, & a oil change once a year. If that is to much, then walk away now.

The 30k service is, all plugs, cap & rotors, all filters, & all fluids. Most shops charge about $1000-2000 for the service. Then around 90kmi most people also change the plug wires, & rebuild the distributor. The wires are around $500 & 2hrs to install while you are doing the plugs, & the dist is about $400 for parts/labor.

I did my 90kmi my self, & parts were around $750.

60k is the big $$$$ service. You should have all plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belts, filters, fluids, and the distributor belt done at that time. Everyone forgets about the distributor belt, but you don't want that thing to snap on you. Usually guys just pull the distributor out and send it off to have the belt replaced for around $100 IIRC. In reality, the little belt costs about $25, but you have to disassemble the distributor to replace it, so most guys send it off.

Leakdown and compression test BEFORE PURCHASE is an absolute MUST on a 993 due to the valve guide issues. I have seen 180k mile 993's with nearly perfect leakdown and compression tests, and I have seen 50k mile cars with horrible numbers. A recent top end job is a bonus if you can find a car that has had it done.

The full maintenance plan is listed out in the factory manuals.

I would budget 3K a year for service if driving over 5K miles a year. This includes regular maintenance, like tires and other things that are getting old and breaking with a 15 year old car. For example, if clutch wear out, it can be over 5K 'cause "while in there".

Their great cars, but not inexpensive for repairs, unless you do most yourself.

I spent about that on a 30kmi service.

Really if you can wrench, the cars are cheap, much more so then my old BMW M3.

You had an E30 correct? I might end up with an E35 M3 as a daily one of these days. I know a guy that has a 98 (not sure) with under 76K miles that he keeps threatening to sell me.

Yea, I had a E30. I think you are talking about a E36 3 series, 1992-1998?
They are super simple to work on, & are very cheap & easy to maintain.

15min spark plug changes, 20min valve cover gasket changes, 6qt oil changes, & a bleed nipple on the clutch that doesn't make you feel like a contortionist. If it's a M3, they are also pretty fast, & handle very well.
