Looking to get a 993... Advise appreciated

Hey All,

I am about to sell my 550hp Audi S4 and get into something a little more historic and a little less common. The Audi is fun, but without 50g, I do not feel that it is unique enough. That being said, I am on the lookout for a clean 993, but do not have a whole hell of a lot of cash to spend. 35k range...

I was wondering what 993 has more features/different features for different model years. What model year has been proven to be the most relialbe/best value? Any features on say the 1995 model that can be updated to the 1998 model? I am sure there are a ton, but what is the extent to get it there.

As Far as I understand, the 993 C2 was a narrowbody car for all years, but for 1997 the C2S was a widebody. I would like to get my hands on a widebody, thinking that it could be more asthetically appealing for me, especially if I decide on a body kit (OEM AERO) or the like.

For 35k, I do not see myself getting into a 993C2S. I barely seeing myself getting into a 993C2 for that price, especially because I am looking for a white one in particular, with a black interior. I am open to other colors, but that is what I would prefer.

Just for reference, how fast is a 1995-1996 993 C2 stock? 1/4 Mile?
Again for reference, how fast is a 1997-1998 993 CS2 stock? 1/4 Mile?

I have daily driven a car that runs about a 12.0 @ 118 for a year or two, and I know the power will not be there with the C2 or C2S, but it certainly will be a piece of history and a pleasure to drive.

I plan on doing the following modifications through time, let me know what you think about them, what might work, and what might not work.

1995-1996 993 C2
(I heard you cannot put 18" wheels on MY95?)
18" or possibly (Oh no!) 19" BBS LMs (18x8.5F 18x10R or 19x8.5F 19x10R?)
Not sure if 19s will fit, and not even sure I want to go that big... for performance reasons. Will I run into any problems with them? LMK, TIA!
Exhaust (What do you guys reccomend?)
Intake (Not sure on this)
Chip (Also not so sure)
Cams and Heads?? (Not sure how beneficial, how much money, etc?)
Recaro Pole Positions (I plan to do this, I love the seats)
Navigation? (I don't think there is any way to get OEM Porsche Nav into a 993, if not possible I won't do it, I don't want to go aftermarket) (What do you guys reccomend for upgading the sound a little, but keeping it rather light (no sub)? )

Suspension (PSS9s?) Any other good suspensions? I do not mind a little harsher ride for excellent performance.

Aero Kit? Does it fit on a narrow body cars? does it look ok? any pictures?

Sorry about all the questions guys, but I am learning. If you want to know ANYTHING about Audi S4's or 2.7tt motors, give me a hollar as I have taken apart almost every bolt on those things.

I plan on doing all the labor on this car myself as well.

One more thing:

What is the 1/4 mile record for reference of a 993 C2? 993 C2S? Both being naturally asperated with bolt ons...

Just wondering, not looking to drag the car at all, but straight line performance is a good number to look at for some sort of acceleration reference.

Hey,

Ill try to answer as many of your questions as possible.

1) 1/4 Mile times. I ran my 95 consistently in the low 13's one night. This was my 1'st time drag racing on a track though.

2) You could probably pick up a Narrow Body C2 for $35k, expect to over $40k and much more for a wide body car.

3) The 95 cars have ODB1 and do not have the check engine light issue with the carbon builds up. The 96 and up cars have 12 more HP.

4) Yes, you can put 18"s on a 95. I would not put 19"s on any 993.

5) No navigation

6) I would go with Porsche GT3 seats (made by Recaro)

7) PSS9's are good, you should also look at JIC coilovers.

8) Aero kit is available, you could go with many different options. For me with the narrow body cars, I would go with the RS look. You can also do a GT2 look and many different variations of the 2.

9) Fabspeed makes some great exhaust products, Mufflers, cat bypasses, headers.

10) there are several different "chips" out there in the market (only for 95 models), 96 and up are "flashed".

11) For intake, I would get the factory vented airbox with a BMC filter.

12) As far as heads & cams, I would leave it stock unless you plan on building a whole new motor.

13) There are options to "turbo & twin turbo" these cars. Todd Knighton at Protomotive is the man when it comes to 993 conversions.

Hope this helps, good luck and let me know if you need some assistance finding the right car for you.

In regards to navigation, you could go with a Traffic Pro.

I too had a 1998 silver widebody, lowered with 17 inch wheels. It was great looking and more solid than my 01 turbo, If power is not going to be a issue, go for it. I would have kept mine but it was a tip and I hated (especially since it was a 4 speed), if it was a 6 speed I would have done some upgrades to get around 350 horse power which I think is attainable and probably a good number for that car.
