I've driven a few 996s (not a GT3) and they seemed very Lexusish, very civilzed, very smooth and quiet. NOT that there's anything wrong with that. But the 993 has a more raw, connected to the road, feel to it. Personally, I like the 993 interior much better than the plastic trim in the 996.
The fact that the 993 is the last of the air-cooled cars, which might make them a little more collectible in the future, (and retain value) combined with the fact Porsche made a WHOLE BUNCH more 996s is the factor of price differences.
I think most people will tell you to go drive as many 993s AND 996s, and decide which one is right for you.

Good luck!
Well said. I've owned both a 996tt and a 993tt and personally preferred the 993. Love the look and feel. much more visceral. a true classic. Mine has been problem free, but I spent months finding the right car. PPI is a must.

Thanks!

Great Replies, all.

Renee...your car is beautiful. But, I'm looking for a coupe - and a six speed.

PPI for sure...even for a 996, I believe. I have a mechanic lined up in Torrance, CA.

What was the story with the Targas? I have read/heard that the 993's had some issues with the tops leaking? Or was it worse? I have looked at a couple, and really like the roofline...

Great!
You can't find a better guy than Tony. I've known him for many many years. My wife was his office manager and operations manager for the race team. I got to be part of the pit crew (dream come true).
www.reiser-callas.com click on team, that's my wife on the right.

Thanks for the message! I just realized I've seen your car somewhere before. Is it listed somewhere else for sale on tne net? I think I saw a series of pics with your car parked in front of an office building? Some kind of multi-level building...

Beautiful car!

What did you do on the pit crew? I worked for Dan Gurney for five years during the GTP days. It brought tears to my eyes to watch the 24hr's from Daytona last night and today. Nothing like doing a pitstop during a race!

I currently race a formula ford (see the avatar?).

Basically, just a gopher! But during races, I got to throw tires, clean windows, etc. etc. and get ready for the next pit stop, which could be the very next lap!

It was pretty cool to see Dan's son fillin' Pop's shoes at Daytona!

Renee - How did I screw THAT up? Must have been someone else with a link to a cabrio with tip for sale...DOH! Where are you located?

The Wheel - It was great to see Alex up front. He's a terrific kid. He and Justin are a couple of fine gents. AAR was a great place to work - still talk with them from time to time.

I have both. The 993 is much more of a real sports car. 996 more civilized street driver to go to Starbucks.
