1996+ Question...

1996+ Question...
I am really interested in getting a 1996+ 911 TT (specifically the 993... I think). Please for give me if I do not know the 993, 996, 997, 965, etc. designator., but I am still trying to learn Porsches'. Anyway, I have been searching autotrader and other various websites, but I really want to know if I can drive it as a daily driver (DD). I have been obsessed with this car for quite some time now, and just wanted to know what are the pros/cons to this car? Can it be used as a daily driver, and if so, what are the maintenance costs? I was reading a thread about the reliability of the Ferrari F355 and using it as a DD, but someone commented that the 993 (specifically 1996+ 911 TT) had maintenance concerns as a DD. If I have to go to a 996 911 TT that is also not a problem, even though I am in love with the 1996+ 911 TT. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

amble,
the price of a an 11 year old 993tt vs a 5 year old 996tt is marginal if any which should go to show you which holds better value. either are great cars though and it all comes down to preferrence. if i had the money, i'd get the 993tt because of it's classic looks.

If you want the REAL reliability stories about 355's and 348's go check out ferrarichat.com. Those things hardly make it out of the driveway without needing major service.....(okay minor exaggeration )
993's (TT's incl.) make fine DD's as sports cars go. Rennlist is a GREAT place for info and great people.....and much more active at any given time. Buy a membership for $17 bucks and it'll save you thousands, gauranteed! No affiliation, yada, yada, yada....just a happy paying member

Thanks so much for the help guys. I really had my heart set on the 993 TT, because I love the classic look. However, if a 996 TT is more reliable, I may lean that way. I am not made of money. So I don't want to see the car in the shop all of the time... wife will make me get rid of it then. So I need something that I can drive daily without having any major issues. I have had several vettes, current being an 01 Z06. None of which ever needed a trip to the dealership. I am at 57K on my 01 Z06, and it has never been to the dealership. I know that Porsches require a little more attention. Basically, I just want to find out how much attention that is.
Thanks

There really were no costs.
1 set of rear tires in between full tire changes.
A battery (car still had the original in 2001)
Oil changes (religiously) every 3000 miles.
1 set of brakes
Mods......(That is where I spent most of my $)

amble- I've had my 993 for 6+ years with 5 of those I used it as a DD. Car is rock solid. Only time I was in the shop was for the 30k or 60k. I am actually taking it to the shop tomorrow though..... my 90k is due. It has been everything I could have hoped for when I bought it. Will keep it for as long as I am able.

I'd have to second (and third) Luis and Dan. My car has 108K on it now. Although I don't use it as a DD much anymore (have to be in a pickup), when I diid use it, the car never (and still hasn't) gave me any real problems other than needing maintinance performed (I do it myself).
Any car will have problems. The 996 have inherant RMS problems thru early 2001 (and maybe still?) The 996 are more cushy for a DD, but the 993 are the last classic old school.,,,,guess it just depends on which priority is higher (looks or cush).
I'm torn right now between a 997 because I think all around its a much nicer car than the 996, but I'm also sold on the performance of the 996 GT3, so for me its a question of the overall look of a "mass production" model or a specialty model for its performance.........tough huh?
