996turbo is infamous around these parts
Is the milage accurate?

Guys, I'm looking at a potential purchase of a '98 C2S. Some of the low milage I am seeing is really amazing. Is there a way to confirm the milage on a 993 other than the one displayed on the speedo? Does it register anywhere else...Computer?

I just don't want to get burned.

Thanks in advance,
Harry

Check out the service history of the car or run a car fax. You should be able to tell if it is legit by the time line of the miles.

Also just check out the entire car, give it a look around, look for wear and tear on the seats, interior components, ask how often the tires were changed, when the brake pads were replaced, etc.

You have to remember, for example, lets say the car was crashed but the guy had enough money to fix it with out insurance knowing, CarFax won't be able to identify that, things like that. Or if the guys been driving around the car and getting it "privately inspected" and they don't record the mileage, he can CarFax his own car and roll the miles back to slightly more than the last official inspection.
