I've just purchased a 996tt, and was installing a SSK yesterday.

When I removed the center console, I found this odd looking box attached to the bottom of the pocket. It doesn't look factory...

It has some kind of coax connector - perhaps it is Lojack? If so, that's a pretty lame place to mount it.

I don't really care about Lojack, so if that is what it is, I'll likely rip it out - I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.

Anyone recognize it?

 

Just a guess...what about satelite radio?

 

Thanks for the response - I don't think so - I traced the antenna cable, and it goes to an adhesive metallic "mat" stuck to the center hump, so it must be using the body of the car as the antenna. Sat antennas are line of sight because of the high frequency.

Contact Lojack Customer service. I don't think they speak with you about specifics unless they have a copy of your registration with your name on it. They could tell you if there is one installed when they have your registration information using the VIN.

Does it have a back-up battery attached to it, should be about 6amp/hr rated.

 

I didn't see any battery attached to it, but I didn't follow the harness up into the dash, so it is possible.

I'd try the Lojack support route, but I just bought the car and don't have the registration yet. I suppose I can just do so when I have it.

 

Are there any part numbers on the unit? Or the other side if you unscrew it ?

 

None that I could see - there may have been some on the other side, but I didn't look (would have been a good idea to do so).

I think it is lojack as well, they are always in a black box next to a place where they can get power.
