Hmmmm. Ryan had the one piece wheels with 1" lip on his RS6 and they said "forged" on one of the spokes???? If you can read German or whatever language the below is, maybe we can get a difinitive answer..

I stand corrected. You are right on, just called 3t motorsports who imports some stportec items. He indicated that the sportec wheels for the Turbo are made by BBS and are Cast, not forged. He also verified that the only finishes were the "antracite" and "ball polish". They are one piece wheels and his qouted price was like $4720, however, Arling can get them cheaper. Thanks.

the sportec wheels look good but they are heavy as hell

i was contmplating on getting them for my a4 but they were jsut too heavy, i even went to 3t to check them out, in my opinion they llook better in picture than in real life..

heavy as hell .. i thought my rocks were gonna fall off from carrying them lol

When choosing a wheel for a car, one needs to look at what they do more with the car. Obviously if one needs a dual purpose wheel for street and track, there will have to be some sort of compromise. This "compromise" should be made on depending what you do MORE with the car/wheels. If street use is more prevalent, then road strength should be a priority. If track use is more prevalent, the lightweight and fatigue resistance should take precedence. Any wheel should be aesthetically pleasing to some degree whether street strip or track - this of course is in the eye of the beholder.

For STRENGTH purposes, a reverse lip 3pc will always be stronger VS potholes, road debris, etc, over a standard lip but none of that matters on the track. Track wheels need to be light and fatigue resistant. It is true that step or standard lip wheels are lighter by about 1 to 2 lbs over a reverse counterpart.

I CAN tell you that if these three criteria are what's most important to you, then a solid cast wheel is not the answer (like a Ruf, sportec mono 10, or a techart formula)

The Kinesis wheels are lighter than HRE wheels, in both standard and reverse configurations. They are also shot peened for fatigue resistance (standard). HRE is an excellent choice also, as most people like their style options better (they have more). This is something you will have to decide.

Bottom line: HRE or Kinesis is the way to go, with the Champion motorsport stuff a close 3rd. The only reason I did not give Champion more thought is that they really have mostly 19s, which would probably not be suitable for the track.

one more thing, I have not good experience with Fikse, so I do not recommend them.

 

Okay, I did not get a response. What about these Speedlines at 18 pounds evenf or the 11X19s. That seems awefully light and they are good looking wheels. What is wrong these wheels and whjy no mention of them.

I'll tell you what, I absolutely love the looks of the Kinesis F110. The only reason I didn't get them is because if I wanted a lip, I like the look of the three piece wheels with visable rivets. Wish Kinesis made them like that. Doesn't champion make those F110's anyway?

pls... HREs bend ALL the time. esp on a heavy car like the 996 turbo

That's exactly what I have heard and the concerns and warnings of HRE's weak lip shyed me away.

 

I´d try finding the forged version of the Sportec wheels for the 996 widebody, as they´re very light (lighter than stock) at approx. 18,5 lbs front and 21 lbs rear in the 8,5" and 11" configuration. I know you can get them from Sportec Japan, so you might try contacting them.

 

uhhh....Kinesis and HRE used to use the same lip manufacturer ARS. How can one be stronger than the other?

To be frank, I havent heard stories of EITHER brand bending unless it was an accident condition. FIKSE is the ones I have seen bent from other customers.
