Range is a great truck, but there are just WAY to many.

Go with a new Hummer H1.

Atleast take one for a test drive, you'll be sold.

Just as an FYI to all, the only HRE wheels that can be made for a RR or a Cayenne or a Touareg are the 6 series - this is due to load rating.

I would have to say that it depends on what you are looking for in your SUV. Between myself, my immediate family, and my extended family, and friends i have had the chance to drive the following: 4.4 X5, Caddy ESV, ML500, RR HSE, Volvo XC90, H2, and a Ford Expedition.

Depending on what you are looking for, i would make the following suggestion:

Caddy ESV (mine) - Definately the most plush/comfortable ride you can get for an SUV. Not the best in the snow but at 6600 lbs, and AWD its ok, only thing is that you cant really go fourwheeling in it, thats for sure. If you are looking for a comfortable people mover, this is it. Price point is also a big plus.

Range Rover HSE (wife) - Rides like a truck, definately has an elevated feel. The absolute best in snow. Has the BMW engine, which is nice, but has the Range Rover Tranny. A little steep in price, but has a solid/safe feeling about it.

The ML feels like a gloried mini van, the volvo seems like a stationwagon, the H2 has some style but the worst interior i have seen, an H1 also has style but no leg room to speak of, Expedition has decent power and a good drive train but isnt what i think you are going for, and lastly the X5. My X5 was a P.O.S. and i wouldnt wish it upon anyone. Had problems too numerous to list, including brakes, tranny, navi, electrical, alignment, etc...

What ever you choose, good luck.

My girlfriend, I mean ex-girlfriend has an X5 4.4 sport. We test drove the G500 and new RR and I have to tell you I couldn't wait to get back in the X5. I actually got car sick in the RR. The RR is slow as hell and can't handle at all. I realize we are talking about an suv, but, tight steering, good handling, and good acceleration is what I love about her truck. My friend has an X5 4.6 which is just better in every way as I am sure the 4.8 is even better. I like the Cayenne as well, but it weighs much more and I don't like the rear end treatment. My vote goes for the X5 4.8 all the way. Awesome machine that handles like a tall 5 series.

I like my X5 4.6is, decent truck...dependable...handles like a sports car and is reasonably quick.. I think an extra 100 horsepower would put it over the top though. I think with the mods that I have done I have close to 360-370hp..up from 340.. great truck and not to many people have 4.6is' or 4.8is's. A cayenne is nice but its hard to distiguish it from a turbo/ or s/ or v6 cayenne.. also I think they are taking a major depresiation hit. I saw a couple cayenne turbos at auction going threw for low 70's. at that price I would buy one but not 95k!

i find it pretty amusing some of you guys refer to the x5 as a "truck"

leave the x5 for the wifey/girlfriend like jay z said. The new Rover is where the action's at. it's kobe's daily driver.

i test drove the range rover, cayenne S and BMW X-5 and went with the 4.4 x-5 because the way the car drove. seemed much more street oriented and power and handling was much better than RR. i will say though it is quite a gas guzzler.

Thanks for everybody's responses and opinions. Last night I got a call from the local RR dealer for an offer I could not refuse--a black 03 RR with 5000 miles for 61K. I picked it up at lunch today and so far I am very happy.

You made the right choice. Who really cares about handling like a car feel when you're buying a real truck and especially at these prices.

Put on some 22" MOMO wheels and you're good to go. Enjoy!

I had an 03 Range Rover and loved it, Traded it in on an 04 Range Rover and love it. The 04 is Black and has 22" rims. i also have a 93 with 140,000 on it and still going strong (beater). You made the right choice.

As for the Hummer H1 a great vehicle. Have a 97.5 4door Open Top and love it also but it is not a daily driver. To much work and not enough room inside for everyday!!!
