2003 996tt replaced with 08 Z06
Best move I ever made! Bought the 996tt Lapis Blue/ light grey, brand new in 2003, drove it for 5 years & 12,900 miles. Kept it in pristine condition & it was very reliable with some warranty items covered( about $ 6000 worth). Overall it was an okay car but it was on the heavy side( about 3500 lbs), & is not as nimble as my new Z06( the Z06 is about 300 lbs lighter at 3200 lbs). In a performance car this is a lot of weight. Paid $ 134,000 out the door & sold it 5 years later for $ 62000. that's 72,000 in depreciation. Imho way too much money. Paid 72,000 for a brand new fully loaded Z06 that(believe it or not) is wired to your butt & wired to the road the way the Gt3 or the upcoming GT2 will be. Of course the GT3 is 120,000 & the GT2 will be 192,000 + options. Bottom line is although Porsches are nice cars the Z06 is every bit as good as any of them & a helluva lot more car for the money than any of them. The 08 Z06 with the new tranny & Porsche like steering is "The Real Deal", make no mistake about it. None of this is news that the Z06 is a world class supercar second to none. What is worth considering is that those on here who are considering buying a used 996tt because of the good prices vs a new Z06 owe it to themseves to try out a Z06 before deciding. You might be shocked at how good the Z06 is. Another thing to consider is a full warranty as opposed to a 996tt that may be out of warranty & if it is, get ready to open your checkbook & pay, pay, pay, & then pay some more as Porsche maintenance is anything but cheap. Buying either car you can't go wrong,it's just whatever rings your bell. All the above is Imho.

With a screen name such as Muscle Car it no wonder you are biased!!! I do agree that 72,000 in depreciation is completly sick. Have fun with the Z06, they are a hard car to beat for the money.

So you realized over 50% loss (which was too much) on the TT after 5 years by selling it and bot a new Z06. Any speculation on what that will be worth in 5 years? And if it's only 50% of what you paid will that be way to much depreciation, too? And then will you sell it and buy something cheaper because the depreciation was way too much? If so, why not just by a skateboard and not worry about it? And to think, you only drove it 13k in 5 years? And speculate on this: how will the Z06 be holding up at 75k miles as opposed to a 996TT with the same?

But, you can't argue that for the money the C6ZO6 really can't be beat...

I replaced a tt with C6Z06 too. I had the Z06 for 6 months and didn't like it. I bought a modded 996tt and a F430 to replace it. Best move I ever made!
The seats in the Z06 are like a flopped out fraternity couch, the engine is brilliant and the power was always amazing. Tires are wooden and alternatives slim. Padlets cook calipers on the track. The features were great. However, the overall experience left me wanting. For me it was analgous to eating fast food. It's lots of calories and fills you up but I wouldn't call it a good meal. I don't want to eat at McDonalds every night even though a Big Mac is a lotta food for the money.
Somebody please stop me the next time I decide to buy a car based on the specs.

I've had 4 Corvettes over the years. The new cars are engineered very well.....unfortunately they only have $0.50 left in the budget for little things like paint, interior.......and wait until you get to deal with Chevrolet Bubba
Then there's the C6 styling in general. I swear the design team met for the first time at 11:55 and decided they could knock out the exterior styling before lunch
They ruined a good looking C5

Couldn't have said it better myself. Although I had a C5 Z06 before and I gotta say it was a great car, besides the unreliable part. For the money it handles very well, easy to drive and easy to mod. AND I am not a fan of American cars at ALL. I wouldn't think of driving anything else American besides a Corvette.
