Clutch sliding

I was taking my aunt for a ride and gunned it, I redline first shift into second and then floor it, well I dont feel very much pull and I hear this sliding noise so I look back(thinking its the tires) but don't see any smoke. So i let off and at the next light i smell clutch. Any idea why it was sliding so bad? Did I let it out wrong or something? Well I am letting cool down right now, before I drive some more. Any ideas would be a huge help thanks. Also whats the best way to handle the RPM gap between 1 and 2.

Hi. If your clutch is slipping, and you're sure you didn't
have any bit of pressure on the pedal with your foot,
then it's 'clutch job' time.
The best way to handle the RPM gap between first
and second, is to shift close to, but not over red line,
like you're doing. Make sure you're totally off the clutch
by the time you are adding gas.
To save the clutch, do the same for starts, ie: no drag
race starts. I will be getting a heavy-duty clutch when I
need a clutch job. You should too.

Ok thanks, i must have pushed on the accelerator when i let out the clutch. As for new clutch i think ill have to wait till the turbo S comes in rather then paying to havea new clutch put in on a car with 2000 miles with a new car comeing in 3-4 months.
